My dad thought the brake pedal was not returning correctly because the brake lights would stay on, so he added a return spring. the brake lights turned off for sure then but there was 2 inches of travel before the brakes engaged. When I got the car I found the spring and promptly removed to. when the brake lights stayed on I figured the switch was bad or needing adjustment. and lo and behold I found the bolt and adjusted the switch. No more issue.
