Installing new filler neck grommet...

-
Boil the rubber grommet on the stove for about 10 minutes. That will soften the rubber up a lot. Then it will pop right into the gas tank. Apply some dielectric grease to the grommet once it is in the tank and the filler neck should slide right in very easy.

I didn't need to boil mine. I used the DMT seal and just lubed it a bit. I did remove the three screws from the tube flange/body/cap so it could move a bit. A little painters tape held the pad till I got it over the tube and positioned. Suggest putting the driver side strap into the slot prior to putting the tank up. Passenger side was easy afterward on my B'cuda.

Each has their own trick for lubing- I use armor-all- dries clean and is good for the rubber.

Didn't take the time to research, got the wrong seal, went in easy... too easy. Filled the tank and had gas dripping down under the car. Correct seal next go-around what a ...SOB... it was to get it right, used Vaseline for the install and finally fixed it.....

That's how I did mine, put the new grommet on the tank, put the tank in place and then slid the filler right into it. Was easy both times (First time I forgot slide grommet to seal the trunk floor over the tube!)

I could not find the right size to fit the aftermarket tank and OEM filler neck on my 72 Scamp. It still pukes a bit at each fillup. Any suggestions on how to modify the seal, in order to … seal?

Daves69 - For $14, I'll give it a try. But I think my problem is … the replacement tank. The size of the opening versus the size of the filler neck and grommet don't jibe. Thanks!

I cleaned and reused the old tank. A seal I purchased from another supplier (without investigating first), the tube would not go at all. I suspect it's for an earlier model.
The DMT measured very close to the old cracked original. The old one I could make out the PN.

The one I installed looks like the below. It is from Filler Neck Supply Company, model GR004-02. But like I said, I don't think it's the filler neck, I think it is the size of the opening on the gas tank. I forget the measurements, but this grommet was supposed to cover that size.
