How to Discourage Dogs from Chasing Cats?

Get a BIG cat! Actually when I was a kid we had a siamese cat that was very protective of the yard. One day a big black dog was trying to get in the trash cans in the alley and I noticed that the cat was stalking the dog. Next thing you know the cat is hanging on the dogs face kicking like mad with it's back claws and the dog is running down the ally howling and yipping. The next time that dog went down our alley it went carefully down the opposite side. Then I noticed that any other dog that came down our alley crossed to the other side near our house too. It doesn't really need to be a bigger cat....just a cat with a bigger attitude!
