Hoping to get the attention of all guys hat own or have owned and/or WORKED on these wonders. Just would like to acquire contact with those, so as to have info available to all of us working on these wonders! Yes we a are a small but proud group!!

Her is my first question. No doubt, no one repops a package tray, shelf is 2 levels, and I riped out the outdoor carpet that a PO had installed! Any ideas that make sense???

Sense these cars are not worth a lot ( ha), I like to keep things looking good at a low cost when possible! Thanks to all.

62 Dodge Lancer. Did Upholstry 10 years ago or more--always been under cover. Cut Cardboard template and had it upholstered--still looks good.

Cool !! I painted the Toad 2 years ago and fabed metal on rear wheel openings, not satisfied with one side, and found some metal to pick up next weekend. Wife has claimed thi car and she loves blue, probably will go with B3, she saw a new Ford pickup in a dark grabber like blue...NOoooooooooooooooooo

Hi barbee, what's happening? Yeah, us early-early A body guys need to stick together. Here's what my '62 Valiant V-200 looks like in blue:

Yes we are a small BUT proud group!! Is that B5 or an early blue?? I can love all colors personally.

The metallic are a little more difficult to shoot without a booth and good gun!! But I always persevere!!
I have always had more than one Mopar at a time. And generally have several of the same model, but right now I have a Dukes mixture, 62, 71 , 79! ha.. I need another Toad! ( name used with much love and respect!!)....

the TOADS are far and few between.....I need to get my butt out of house re-mod gear and get back into car hobby mode and play with the TOAD a bit more...personally I would like to see a TOAD page for the forum and separate us from the all inclusive EARLY A's

I understand the sentiment, but the number of Toads is way low, few. '60-2 A's are in many ways so different from the 63-7 A's/ It is fun working on a car that is such a challenge, but irritating at the same time. I would love to have a 62 B Body again, but the race guys snap them up and spend mega $ making them into maxie wedge clones or similar. Would look good next to the Lancer!

something like this......unfortunately I did not think to park this by the Lancer for the picture when I bought this one....

the very fact as you stated that these are so so different form the later A's is why the few and the proud should have its own page....

SlantSixDan was one of my main go to guys for info but he sold off his Toad and has sorta moved on. He has contributed much info on here and slantsix.org on Toads and their uniqueness.

I hope I do not offend anyone with the term "Toad" , it is with love, and is quick and easy!!

Okay I have to ask this now, for etiquette sake. Is the term "Toad" in fact derogatory? I've always called them that and I thought that was sort of a term of endearment.

I have seen some Toad guys be offended by the term.. I personally do not mind the term. I love their uniqueness, I heard if you kiss it , it will turn into a '68 hemi charger RT ( 4 speed, B5 with SE option!?)

if you look at the position of a sitting toad and his legs as they hug his body you will see the resemblance of the swept fender thus the naming it the TOAD toad really means Totally Outstanding Awesome Dodge..

could be worse.......look at the below pic....

there are two type of car owners....those that own TOADS and those that wished they owed TOADS....

you know that is only for humorous effect right?

I was talking to a guy that took his wife to the mopar nats for her first time there. I was really irritated because of all the models of mopars there, she liked the Toads the best of all, and wanted one!! He wanted her to want a 69 superbee so he could add to his collection of them!! I cracked up!!!

what pleases the eye pleases the eye, in the south they would say, bless her heart...the styling cues are radically different and the cars fall into that love it or hate category. Personally I like them for the mere fact they were so different and that includes the 62 model year Dart/Polara. The 61 Plymouth also falls into that group, many folks hated them also. It was rough transitioning into the 60's...

"Bless her heart" I was raised in SW Ga and yes I have her that too!!!!! I love the 66 Chargers, same dal as with the styling of the Toads. I meet a guy from Albany , Ga 30 years ago, he had a totally restored 68 Charger RT Hemi car, and a half dozen 66-7 Chargers, 318- 440 cars , HE loved those first gen cars loved the best!!!
Good thing all of us don't love the 68-70 Chargers the BEST because if so, instead of those selling for $25-35000 they would all bring $500,000!!!!!!! Ha

I liked the 73 Charger SE with the opera windows best......followed by the 66/67 and any other year model I would have to be bored out of my mind to mess with them...but as you stated, difference tastes is what makes the world go around.

I thought there was an Australian firm remaking these package trays in cardboard like the originals. Perusing an Australian early "A" website might help locate name of source. This was true in the early 2000's because I bought one for a customers '62 Signet I did a lot of work on. Cost was high with shipping but it was of excellent quality. Sadly to long ago to backtrack thru records for vendor name.

I have read somewhere? talk of package trays being made, and the 60-1 were slightly different than the 62?? Different material maybe? I have no idea, I am not to that point yet so I have not looked.

I believe they were the same, both shape and material, from'60-'62 but I can't say for 100.0 percent due to the fact that where I'm at I'm usually vacuuming them up rather than removing them semi-whole. There may have been slight color differences since '60-'61 blue and green interiors are a shade or two different than '62's. I know the one I purchased came from a vendor in Australia. I do agree with other posters that cutting cardboard and covering with fabric/vinyl works well and has held up over time. I do remember the upholstery guy complaining about the vertical rise in the package shelf because it tapers down as it goes away from the car centerline. He measured it at the middle, the highest point, and made the first one at that constant height rather than tapering it toward the ends and ended up remaking it. Also on my car he used 1/4" backing under the vinyl and it would be nicer for fit and finish if it were thinner like the original cardboard was. So any future ones I have done I'll likely specify thinner backing, maybe 1/8, under the vinyl.

Sad to see a TOAD thread didnt make it to a second page...hope to have mine running by spring!

Pushing for page two! I think the trays are the same. I think a good shop could get you real close, and 999 of 1000 would not know the difference!

Toads are scarce!!! Rare but rare never necessarily means expensive, and for me that is good! I still want a wagon project to go with the 62 Lancer hardtop. Fond 2 but way too high for their condition, they will be cheaper IF they are to sell.
