April, 1970 New York Auto Show - Baker Dodge Daytona #6 was there

This is the car that was sold to that McGruder collection in AZ for $750K then sold to Canapa for much less?

Absolutely, without any doubt.

There was a thread online where the Owens son was going back and forth with a McGurder buyer. The son was pretty up front about the car IIRC.

I recall a thread that Cotton's grandson going back and forth about the car...
He maintained it raced and all the proof started coming out, showing it at car shows instead of at the track.
The pics from New York just add to the fact it was a show car, never raced as a Daytona.

It is difficult or impossible sometimes to prove the actual history of a specific racecar.
Nobody really cared all that much in the first place and documentation is often non-existent.

My friend has his car going to auction this weekend and fortuitously it was the only one ever made so there’s little dispute (except the color which he had an original sample of).

In this case, vintage photos exist with Cotton Owens 2 complete speedway Daytonas AND the show car, being assembled, all in the same photo.

Not a big fan of open wheeled cars, but I can appreciate a one of one car! Good Luck to your buddy!

Just wondering: What does open wheel(ed) cars have to do with this thread?

The thread is about verifying a specific old racecar which in many cases is rather difficult but for an important car can increase the current value by incredible amounts.

Or decrease the value when the vintage photographic truth comes out...
Works both ways.
