will Edelbrock LD4B intake bolt on to a stock 1964 318 poly

You need to verify what you have. Run the block casting #'s. It might not be a poly....
Or just look at the valve covers... they don't interchange with any other engine

And further more, the heads are the important part in whether it's a poly or not. Why? Because LA blocks and poly blocks are the same. You can put poly heads on an LA block and vise Versa. There's other stuff that has to be swapped as well but it's all bolt in or on.
There's actually documented cases of early 318 LAs having the same casting numbers on the block as early 318 Polys for the reasons stated above.

What I need to do is a write up comparing the two. Lord knows I only have enough engines to do this with.

Just posting photos of a 1964 Poly 318 in a 64 dodge wagon. Yes it has a WIND TUNNEL intake. Also the engine heads were done by Bruce Toth. It has been stroked and poked to 390 CID. This thing will give any Big Block a good run for the money. It sure impressed me. The owner said the money was well spent.

You need to read these articles Building Big Power From a Mopar Poly - Hot Rod Network and This 426-Cube 318 Poly Can Outgun Hemis! - Hot Rod Network and Strange V-8! Make Power With Chrysler’s Obscure Poly 318 Small-block also checkout this website. Building a Polyspherical (Poly or Polyhead) 318 Mopar Race Motor These should help you get rolling. The 318 Poly is a torque monster. Me I'm going to build a stout 426 small block with some Poly Heads also a blower might be in the works. I don't know yet. I have more info If you want. Knowledge is power.

This is a 64 Plymouth Belvedere 318 Poly with the Weiand intake. Major improvement with a 600 AFB and TTI headers and exhaust.

a reminder that new cam cores were nonexistent 30 years ago unless someone has cast some

yes/no. Sure years ago, options werent around. Today though, theres a few options. they can be reground. Oregon Cam Grinders can for a very fair price. Also, Chrysler power is selling new cams, Comp as well. but they are $$$

I'm currently in the process of putting a dual quad intake on my 67 Satellite with a poly. Canadian versions had the poly in 67. I'm anxious to see what improvements I can get from this. Heads have been warmed over too. Has a slightly hotter regrind cam, but debating on putting something bigger in.

Was. Chrysler power ceased production for awhile to see if inventory reduces. I talked to Larry himself 3 weeks ago. They've got a pretty good stock pile of them. If they start selling, they'll make more. Right now those intakes are around 5- 600

Do you happen to know my carb options for the 'wind tunnel' intake. Will my Carter AFB be a direct fit to it. Is it a good carburator for my build?

My oprions atm seem to be go with an original early iron poly intake + buy an adapter. Or wind tunnel or Weiand.

iron intake + adapter (300-400 together)
Wind tunnel (750 with shipping)
Weiand (675 or best offer, ebay)

I just bought this car, I plan to keep it for a while. I did not buy it to sell. I want the best performance from it so the price difference isn't so significant to me, but I don't want to waste my money, I want it to be well spent.

I'm leaning toward the wind tunnel something tells me it would out perform the others but then again im new to this stuff so school me please.

I think the Wind Tunnel is a good choice. It's a bit spendy but It looks like a good design. Like a mini tunnel ram/Air gap combination. It has been used for quite a few Poly dyno runs for different combinations.

its designed for the holley flange so any modern carb should fit. as for the Carter AFB, it MIGHT. its depends if it is a dual pattern AFB or not. I know it'll accept eddlebrock carbs so it should fit the AFB as well. If you are deadset on running the AFB, adapters to the holley flange are readily available from just about anywhere in case it needs one.

the other thing to keep in mind with the Windtunnel, you have to use the gaskets from Chrysler power, regular poly intake gaskets will leak.

One other thing, the windtunnel intake is MUCH taller than a factory intake, hood clearance becomes an issue.

heres what I'd do, what HP goal and what the goal for the car? The best performance is subjective. street machine, sleeper, drag racer etc. If you're just wanting a sleeper/street machine, I'd go with the factory 4 barrel and adapter, run the carb you have. Take the extra 300, get a custom ground cam from Oregon cam grinders (150 bucks), and then see how much @halifaxhops would charge to do a complete, tuned distributor for you like he did for mine. With the cam, carb, intake and correctly curved distributor, you'll be pushing near 275-300 hp

the intake difference alone between the factory 4 barrel and the windtunnel intakes is gonna be maybe 30-40 hp tops, and thats assuming you do the cam. The biggest areas that held the polys back in 4 barrel trim was the exhaust manifolds (very restrictive even for factory pieces) and the cam was very very mild.

You are in LA
is there still a fall fling at Woodley park, Long beach and or Pomona swap meets, advertise in the wanted sections
a little patience will score you a manifold
find some exhaust flanges and check out the ford headers
Poly uses shorter cam than the LA for the same torque curve - solid or hyd- your choice (is this year dependent?
post up your compression, gears, converter, usage, weight B4 thinking of a cam change
IN LA I'd talk to Engle first but Mopar grind not chevy
Else Bullet, Ultradyne for solids, Lunati RAcer Brown
IDK if Oregon has any Mopar masters- here in LA you could get a chevy re grind from Isky or Clay Smith, Chet Herbert has some mopar profiles
good core is what to find first

Thanks for all the info. I'm shooting for close to 350 HP if I can. That being said, I don't want to overhaul the whole engine yet though. The previous owner said he had the engine rebuilt 5 years ago, heads machined, bored 03 over, he said it has "a mild cam in there that I'm gonna love," idk the kind of headers it has but I plan to change them and do a custom exhaust set up. He did not drive it very much at all since the rebuild because its kinda of a basket case/ not road safe. Lights dont work etc, all rubber is really bad, driver door doesnt close.... its starts right up tho with no smoke but it is clearly out of tune, kinda hesitant. Basically he lost his job right after doing engine, trans, rear end rebuilding few years ago and had to sell the car now to pay bills. I know the POs word doesnt mean much since he lost the receipts but for what is worth I believe the guy and would rather not start digging into engine replacing internals before I really need to.

I'm gonna sound like an idiot here but it turns out the car actually has the early poly 4 barrel intake casting number 1859229 on it already. Basically I've been at work a lot the last few days and haven't been around the car much. My father used to have a 1965 sport fury with a 383 bb years ago so he knows a bit about mopars. Right after I bought the car a few days ago he took a quick look under the hood and mentioned the intake looked stock and because it has a mr gasket adapter I though the PO might of mikey moused it and put the AFB on the stock 2brrl intake. Just found out he did NOT, he did it the proper way that you mentioned. I'm at home today so I've had time to look over the car more. I'm going to start a new thread because I have some other questions.

an LS intake can be made to fit a poly if you can believe that. Pretty close out of the box, just backfill the ports to match up.
