last time I wrapped my headers I used the summit brand wrap. then used the AKA "header paint" over it.
It's last me a long time but after three eng removal they are damaged and is falling apart.
I just order me a new converter, do the eng is coming out again and i might as well re wrap my headers.
Also 50 feet? is that enough? seams like a had to buy more wrap before i got it complete last time.

Last time I wrapped mine I used that DEI Titanium stuff and it seems pretty darn good.

My buddy wrapped his and his headers rusted bad and fell apart, held the moisture when it was sitting, it has it application but I don't think it's good for a steet car.

I seen that at summit and and when hmmm and started this thread.

I have a street cars, with slick, that never comes out of the garage except to load on my trailer to go to a race.

how do they retain moisture if they are always hot? I had some on a garaged car for 4 years and the headers faired fine. I used stainless pipe clamps on mine to secure them

I'm thinking it has to do with "high" humidity areas. you know where swamp cooler just don't work, and when you step out of the house, you feel like you just stepped into the shower.........LOL

We will see, when i unwrap them. But what wrap has fallen off, don't look any worse for the wear.

my car hood and roof are perpetually wet in the morning but that is exterior, cannot keep it clean. I never seen my exhaust pipe wet and the fact that your wrapping them, insulating them, may even reduce that condensation to start.

I think that if your wrap the header, sealing it with High Temp Paint. AND heat cycling it. Not just starting it and burning off all the paint you took the time to put on. Well now you have a moisture barrier, just like painting the raw header in the first place.

At least that's how i look at it.

Just a note here to those with ceramic header coatings: applying header wrap on top of it will VOID any warranty the company may have offered at the time of purchase or coating.

Long ago I used the wrap but I didn’t have a garage to House the car. The headers rusted out of the daily driver.
The headers heat, I thought, would heat the wrap and boil the water out of the wrap. This is not the case and I can not explain why the wrap stayed moist/wet. Where ever the wrap was soaked, the worst rust happened.

The wrap was not painted to water proof/protect.

What you talking bout Willis? Haha
On the upside our wiring harnesses stay nice and flexible!

In reality the wrap is to keep the heat in and the velocity high adding HP, do you need the xtra couple HP on the street?

I just did a cam change, and took the nasty dam stuff off, "what was left of it"! Got tired of getting fiberglass in my arms every time I had to work on it. Still don't have the dam stuff completely out of my garage yet. Guess I`m going to have to take the hose to it or mop it out.
Fisrt things first/ still have to reset the valves.
I did have my headers coated w/ 2000 degree something or other, satin black, look pretty fair, for used headers to start with.

Nope never gets driven on the street.
As far as the HP, yup! I need them, if it will make my car go from a 8.03 to a 7.99:D (in the 1/8th)

I did the header wrap more for the starter and to keep under hood temps down. Now that i have a fresh air scoops, under temp are not so much of a priority.

Still think i will re wrap them.......just seeing if there is any better ideas out there before i order it.

Then I would definitely wrap them, but not if it's a street car

Interesting on the .004 w/ the wrap, not worth .004 to put up w/ the dam fiberglass for me.
I did look into some alum. coated wrap that sounds interesting on ebay-----
A wrap that is coated w/ alum. and has a stick on surface to hold it before using the s.s ties would be very tempting .

I would have to look into the glue used, It could make a real mess and slide when it melts

"As I said, before the s/s ties."
FYI, THERE IS A METAL HEAT TAPE USED IN THE A.C INDUSTRY FOR HOT VENTS, WHEN IT GETS HOT IT BURNS IN AND U CANT GET IT OFF W.O SCRAPINHG IT OFF. BUT DOESN`T HAVE ANY INSULATING QUALITIES.--------------as always disregard caps !
If they were to use it on a alum backed header wrap, that is not over standard thickness, they could get rich , when it caught on ! I`d even re wrap my freshly coated headers w/ it .
