Hey Guys,

I have a set of TTI headers on my 69 Barracuda that have probably been on there for the better part of a decade and the ceramic coating is totally flaking off. I know it’s well out of warranty, so I’m not going to even bother reaching out to TTI, but has anyone had any luck with sending coated (but flaking) headers to a shop and having them stripped and recoated? Any recommendations on good shops would be appreciated.

If you happen to know of any in the St. Louis or southern Illinois area, I may be able to save on shipping. Thanks in advance!

You could probably almost buy a new pair for what it's going to cost to re coat. You can try calling gateway powder coating they are in the st louis area. I believe they do ceramic coating.

Yeah, I would hesitate to buy another set from them despite the fact that I was happy with the figment and the initial quality. The car has been a garage queen for the majority of its life and certainly since these headers were installed, so it’s kind of hard to accept that the ceramic coating just starts to disintegrate after so many years, especially when the car doesn’t get driven much. Trouble is, I know there’s not a better fitting option out there, so I’m kinda hamstrung.

I just went thru this on a used set I bought, about 8? yrs ago. I had cut two tubes out and drove an 1 7/8" trailer ball thru them to straighten them up, and rewelded them , then wrapped them w/ the despicable fiberglass wrap. They were originally chromed from tti. I don't know how long they were used on the orig. owners car, but he had them wrapped too, when I bought them, which I replaced as said.
I took them to a place in Tulsa and had them coated w/ 2000* something or other (flat black) , they turned out pretty well for what they`ve been thru. / we`ll see------
I`m sure there are places close to u that do coatings, do some research.
Jet hot has emailed me at least 6 times trying to get me to send them the headers, which they priced re doing for $375 , the shipping was the killer on the deal, absolutely stupid from Tulsa to OKC! I`m sure the jethot ceramic, inside and out would have been the best , but-------

Between the stripping, the labor, and the re-coating, and more labor, it'll cost less (usually) to just buy new ones.

It's a 50/50 chance. I have several sets of TTi's that are well over 20 years that look brand new. But the ones on my Hemi car that are maybe 3-4 years old are not so nice. I agree with you about shipping costs, crazy expensive.Sometimes you gotta bite the bullet.

Not so, new ones like mine are over $900, I ended up paying $300 for the coating I got. I said $375 from jethot in okc, but it was $350, typo on my part. The stupid shipping cost is killing a lot of trade.

Maybe in OK. Nobody works that cheap here in the northeast! (Most headers aren't $900 either).

Have you looked into HTC?

Edit.... I tried to google what I was thinking and came up with a host of places. Hedman headers uses a “HTC” coating on there headers and I thought they were located in Ct.

I’ll keep looking a bit. However. This is one place I found local-ish to you:

In Pa.; Bonehead Performance

I took my coated TTi's off, had them sand blasted, sprayed them down with brake cleaner and repainted them with VHT's High Temp paint about 7 years ago. Painted them Matte Black this time instead of the silver they came with from TTI. They still look awesome and I can touch them up as needed.

I could still see the internal coating when I had them off and 90% of the external coating was removed during use and blasting. It didn't really seem to matter. VHT's paint is awesome. I ended up doing my entire exhaust black without even blasting it.

It takes 2 to 3 cans per set of headers and comes in a bunch of colors.

I’m in Missouri... not on the east coast. But I do appreciate the recommendations!

if you want ceramic that will last.
It costs no less, generally more, but you can have ceramic melted onto the headers instead of having it applied in a polymer binder.
Its an industrial process: zirconium dioxide (with ytrium?) applied using either open of plasma flame. Might find a local place that's willing to do your headers.
Otherwise, there's only one place in the US that advertises specifically for automotive aftermarket. That's Swaintech. They call it white lightning.
Swaintech makes a big secret out of it, but you can go to Zircotech's website (UK) and read about the process.

my headers couldnt look bad enough to make me want to go thru the hassle of removing them !
Seriously though .. I just bought some TTI W2 race headers and I really wanted them black. But there were none in stock so I got the shiny ones.
If you really want the shiny look just order new ones and sell the ones you have for 450$

Jet hot in OKC did mine about 15 years ago. A few years ago, I called them up and said they needed to be done again, and asked what the cost would be. NO CHARGE. Lifetime warranty. Call them.

This ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The lifetime warranty from jet hot sounds like a good deal. Only caveat to that is shipping that's gotten so expensive. I just received my lifetime replacement on headers and one way shipment was 70 bucks. I'm betting you must pay both ways shipping to them.
I just purchased Zybar to coat the outside of my headers. For the inside I bought eastwoods internal exhaust paint with the 2ft long applicator tube. Hopefully it will last awhile-never tried either product.

Had my TTi’s redone at Jet Hot in OKC about 4 years ago. For some reason they told me that Jet Hot coated TTi headers so the headers were stripped and coated for free. I don’t think anyone else has had success in getting them warrantied like that since then though. But mine do have a number engraved on them now so they have a lifetime guarantee. The cost would have been $350.

Now, one thing that I had been aggravated with was the fact that once I had them coated, the headers sat in my house for about a year. I got them out one day and the coating was falling out from the insides of the tubes with zero use and stored indoors. So I had to send them back again. I was able to get them down there and Jet Hot shipped the headers back. Upon arrival, I noticed a pinhole in one of the tubes! The headers at this point had been sand blasted so many times that they were thinned. I talked with Jet Hot and they wanted to replace the headers, keep mine, and re-coat and sell them. Well then they found out how much TTi’s were. Then they tried to get me to take some Hedman headers or something not even close to the same quality or value of the TTi’s. I said hell no! So what Jet Hot ended up doing was taking them back again (and paid for shipping again) and they sent the headers off to a welder to patch them up. Then they re-coated and mailed back to me. The headers have discolored since then and there’s not much I can do about it. The headers are just too thin for the abuse they see.
