I doubt that many of you guys are really into Patina.. but if you are, I read about a neat trick to give it a little sheen and preserve it. After reading, I tested it on my engine cover. A little shiny at first but tames down a bit with some dry cloth buffing. Still can't decide if I want to do the whole truck! Provides protection for about 3 months, doesn't attract or hold dirt and water will actually bead up on it...

Boiled Linseed Oil!

I like a certain amount of patina and it's nice to preserve it so it doesn't continue to rest away. I don't really like when it's clear-coated because it seems like the clear coat doesn't it here well and wants to peel off, and that never looks good.

On the exterior wipe it down with automatic trans fluid, it will make it look better than totally shot paint.

Have seen used car guys "slick'em" tires and all with atf like that. lol Looks good for a little while.

If you do this, be aware that linseed oil can do the spontaneous combustion thing when a wet rag of it is left laying around. The owner of the garage journal almost lost his shop like this. Caught the whole thing in his security camera.

My cousin bought an old jeep cherokee off his neighbor one time, it was pretty used up, the neighbor was hauling hay in the back of it.
He cleaned the hay out of it, fixed some minor mechanical issues, wiped it down with ATF and sold it quick for his asking price.
It was black, so it shined up decent.

Watching this for tips. When it's time to hit the road (it'll be awhile) for the most part, it goes with this paint. I love it:

I have a 1/4 mile gravel drive way and need to be careful what I put on the cars that will not attract dust. NO tire cleaner of shine - all that I have found just pull in the dust and then very hard to get that off again. Thanks Dantra for your comments it is a nice car and has no rust at all . It sat 40 years in Wy before I found it and has only 80,000 miles. Engine compartment was cleaned up only.

I do the same as retractable, wet sand lightly, run a buffer over it and then a good wax job. Water beads, dust wipes right off, looks good for months.
