will be getting shifter rebuilt or replaced - what would be correct for 1968 4spd 383HP Barracuda? What is in there now likely came with 1971 donor car that provided 18 spline hemi 4 spd. but I don't know what model. I have been told that I won't be able to bolt up the Inland /hurst 68 factory 4 spd shifter w/o mods to shifter mount. Anyone know if that is right? There is pretty wornout hurst competition/plus with 2336 on reverse shift lever on there now that seems to do the job. any commnets tips much appreciated.

18 spline "hemi" 4 speeds were not available on a bodies when new. Only B and E bodies. Is your trans case an A body? We're the guts swapped into an A body case or is your trans from a different car and adapted?

Inland shifters were used in 1968 A body cars but Chrysler switched back to Hurst shifters sometime during the model year. So your worn out Hurst may not be incorrect.

If it fits but is just in need of a rebuild, why not just use it after getting it rebuilt?

yes.. I might end up doing that in the end. Case is definitely 1971, model believed to be a E body but not 100% certain. No vin on case where it should be. Guess we were thinking a 'period correct' '68 shifter if it works well (ans that might be big if with Inland) would be nice to have along with the reverse lock-out which I don't have now. thanks for your input.

First, be sure that you have an "A" body 4-sp, because "A" and "B" tailshaft housings locate the shifter in different locations. Mid-year 1968, Mopar switched from Inland to Hurst, so either will work for you if you have a "A" body trans.

guess it must be - it has been in the car for a number of years..
