Rearend modification costs?

that dr diff is not just a housing. its a powder coated housing, studs, nuts, axles and bearings. brand new i might add. 775 seems like a good deal to me. just the axles and bearings is 300+ value

NEGATIVE...built CORRECTLY the 8 3/4 will hold up to some serious power more then a few 9 second cars using them..as for the "bullet proof" dana 60 seen more then a few "grenade" at the track..

I get it. But the cost is the same so why bother with the 8.75? I'm going to ditch my 8.75 and do a Dana. It makes no sense to build an 8.75 when you have nothing to start with.

But the 8 3/4 is easy peasy to do a gear change in. So unless your car is a dedicated drag car AND already sorted out the 8.75 makes a lot of cents...

I've heard this argument too. It comes from guys who never tried to swap third members on a regular basis. It doesn't happen very often.

What do you consider built correctly.

I used to change mine more often than my underwear...lol

once drove to Spokane for a race running 2.90s (?) then swapped in 4.11s to run....then back to the 2.90s...
Did the same for a trip to MN to race BIR.... and Seattle...and Woodburn...

driveline.works = SOLUTION
Has anyone used this company. Their website and prices are very attractive. Many choices here.

I hear that we use to drive down to E-town with highway gears get to the hotel and spend the afternoon swapping out chucks go racing for the weekend then swap back before heading home, had it down to about 20 minutes per swap:lol::lol:..

I did that too. In my teens. After that I said screw that crap.

I stayed at my sisters house in Spokane for that race and changed gears in the street right in front of her house.
Well the guy across from her happened to be a GTO guy and came over to ask me what I was doing.... "Installing new gears " I said... he asked how long would that take me.... I said about 25 mins... SILENCE..... HUH ? Really ?

hahaha..... he had no idea what a 8.75 was.

There is a strange s60 video on YouTube and they claim that because they have gone to a threaded adjuster for setting the backlash that if you already know your shim pack thicknesses you can swap Dana 60 ratios in under an hour. And the Dana is superior in strength to boot.
Like yellow rose said, if you have put a new axle under your ride, it does not make sense to go 8 3/4. The Dana will grow with your performance increases. Even the 8.8 is a better way to go than the 8 3/4 because it is a Salibury type axle. Imho

I have the 8.8 but if I had it to do all over again I would have just left the 8 1/4 in it. I don’t race it much just a couple times a year. I have gone from 7 1/4 to 8 1/4 to b body 8 3/4 to 8.8. Got my money back every time but not my time. Do your research stick to your plan Don’t wait to upgrade save and do it all at once.
I had an 8 1/4 under my dart with Mopar 4:56 gears that you used to be able to get from Chrysler. Even had an 833 stick shift with it.
Used to beat the crap out of it. Never had a problem on the street with it. Of course those hard compound N 50,s never had any traction, but it sure was a hoot to drive. Lol ah the good ole days.

Like I said... if you are running a high horse dedicated drag car or have settled into a permanent build for your street car then the Dana is a better way to go. But fore some of us that might run the 1/4 on occasion and will take our cars on longer journeys the 8.75 is a good choice.

You must be under 30. Or a fitness nut. Or both. I don't work that hard any more.

Equally hard to find, 57-59 Ford Fairlanes, Rancheros, Wagons, and yes, even Edsel 9" will pretty much drop in. 1/8" difference drum to drum, perches right on.

I used to swap pigs too. I had at least one of nearly every ratio from 2.76 of course, on up to 4.30s, plus a 4.88s, and a 5.38. But I got tired of that chit and got me a GVOD. Cost me 23 pounds. But I swapped out the cast iron A833 case, for an aluminum one, and broke even. BadaBooom.
