Has anyone relocated their filler location to the inside of the trunk for modern gas pumps in the early A's? I'm curious if there's products to complete this idea or how others have done so.

Inside the trunk is a bad idea. Any vapors could get into the passenger area.

Best to let the vapors vent outside the car.

Also......

If you are having trouble fueling with modern pumps, try holding the gas nozzle upside down next time. (hose pointing up)

It works for me.

I'll give it a shot! I usually just kneel down and press in and hold for like, 12 gallons.. i saw a ford falcon where some guy relocated the neck into the trunk and put a modern cap on. was wondering if that would be a way to go

Im putting flip top gas cap from 67 up on my 65 Dart project for this reason. I was able to use a portion of 67-69 cuda sheet metal and weld 6" higher to make more usable than stock.
You could still get an adaptor for flip top if interested in original location to eliminate stock situation.

I think this is uniquely a California problem as we have small nozzles and the vapor boot. I just shove it in as hard as I can and hold it, I do not depend on it hanging there on its own.

“just shove it in as hard as I can and hold it,”
Sounds like how you play Rodeo.

New guy here, 63 Valiant Convertible. I have the CA pumps but I can get gas to pump with it upside down but it only takes a little fuel and then dumps out all over the place. today i ran out of gas with my experienced mechanic with me in the car and then went to the station and it took 4 gallons before dumping out. I let it sit and then tried again with the same result. Any thoughts? Could a vent line be plugged or something preventing more gas from going in?

If you were holding it at 'full trigger', try half trigger.

The fuel neck opening around the fuel nozzle should allow air to pass easily, so it should not be a venting issue.

Modern pump flow on full trigger can be too fast for older filler necks though.

I moved mine to the top. It is still uses part of the factory neck where it mounts to the quarter, for now. I will be changing to a flapper/vented inlet. Before installing the new tank, a vent was welded in. It will have a line added to the inlet vent tube.
So the fuel spillage shouldn't happen. I do fill at half speed. If i filll fast the escaping will burp fuel out.
Find a vented/flappered filler neck and mount it to the stock location. I have one off an S10, but i have seen universal necks for sale.

thanks, it definitely wasn't a flow issue, I was going slow and the tank was full (at least the neck was full). any thoughts on checking for proper venting? Spec seems to indicate a non-vented cap and the tank I look for sale for this era say 'no vent tubes', could all that be part of it? i was thinking of 'filling' it up, then siphoning it out to see what I get and going from there. any other suggestions? My gauge doesn't work so I might have to pull the tank anyway.
