Ive only had my Dart for a few days so Im still in the process of going thru it.
Its got one of those triple gauges with oil, temp, volt made by autogage. Doesnt seem to be to good of quality, but it is connected properly.
Anyways, 340 motor, X heads, rebuilt to stock specs with about 3k miles. Im not sure of clearances yet. Was going to pull it this winter to check out the internals. Gauge reads 75-80 at startup. Remains in the 60-65 range at op temp idling. Seems high right?
Is the best thing to pop off the sending unit and check with a tester? Or should I check something else first? Thnx

Yeah man...thats what I thought!!
My buddy who came over to check it out kept saying it should be 35ish idling.
Got me thinking too much....

It's fine. Nothing wrong. A good Mopar will have it some oil pressure.

Might be a tad high but not bad. The higher pressure relief spring is set at 72 psi.

Gauges can be off for sure. If you want, get a single mechanical gauge and compare.

I wouldnt worry about it at all. A stock rebuild “ should” be setup with tighter clearances than a race motor

yep alitle high ,but might just be the sender or gauge being of aswell. At that preasure you could probably run a thinner oil if its due to tight clearances.

Mine is the same high pressure pump I'd rather have high volume and lower pressure myself

Normal.
Probably has a melling "72" , once you drive 3-4000 rpm cruise on the highway for some you'll notice when you come to a stop the oil oil psi will be like 25-30 psi @ idle.
