Snowmobiling blues...

-
I was just wondering if anybody else this time of year just is very depressed about not being able to ride your snowmobile? For a couple months at least and haven't rode it for a few months at least.
braaAAP!
The season is getting close. Gonna get mine started and freshened up soon.

Cant do it any more. Neck and back and wrist pain. Sure would have liked to have a Timbersled. Nooo its not made out of timber.

My one experience in sleds lasted about six hours. Spent more time stuck than sledding, but somehow still managed to wreck two sleds, twist my knee, concuss myself, and tear my rotator cuff.... About ready to try again.

I don't know whats wrong with these people J Par, there is nothing I love more than Snowmobiling. We haven't been getting as much lasting snow the last few years, far less than when my boys were younger. It's been good somewhere then rain or warm up and kill the trail. Sometimes I'll just watch Snowmobiling videos, sad I know but I'm a hooked.

I understand why people love it...but for me it’s a terrible reminder of a horrible tragedy.

20 years ago a bunch of us went up to the Salmon river in NY to steelhead fish while a couple of the guys came along to snowmobile.

While we were on the river, two of the guys snowmobiling (brothers) got mixed up on some trails and ended up heading at each other head on. The one brother jumped a rise just as the other was coming up the trail and the front ski caught him in the chest and literally tore him in half.

We had to all go ID the body and then call his wife to tell her what had happened.

I never want to be near a snowmobile again.

Hey j par,

I rode my last snowmobile in 1976. I haven't seen one up close since.
Oh man rent one. The technology completely change in 2012. I remember when I was a little kid in Michigan and my uncle and Aunt's give me rides on those late 60s early 70s snowmobiles and when I look back on them now and their little tensley Chrome handlebars? LOL yes even since my early 2000 snowmobiles these newer ones are incredible.

I want wanted to address this just real quickly because I know you didn't add this to be a Debbie Downer as we all know if one of these cars hurt somebody it would have a rough time on us also and we'd understand. They are incredibly dangerous and should be treated like a gun.
Thank you for that safety reminder that should never be overlooked.

You should try it again because a lot of times even with the best equipment a very bad day in a very bad condition nothing can be done. Also maybe a inexperienced Rider with a first-time Rider? I don't think I've ever rode a snowmobile and not seen everybody smiling? these days I just roll the snowmobile out of any hole that it digs for itself but kind of rare also as they don't stick so easy no more...

I have 5 dead friends. 3 by sleds and 2 on bikes. 2 of the sleds were driver error and one was by avalanche. The 2 on bikes... 1 was hit by a car on a logging road and the other was barely moving and drunk. Bounced his head off of the pavement. Instant vegetable.

Yeah I haven't took any friends out yet that haven't been almost instantly hooked!
I always tell people it's like my duster having over 900 horsepower weight to power ratio.

Got a Bombardier Grand Touring 900 Ace. Had to start it today. Still have 3 month before driving it.
yes I've been telling my wife for 2 months now we've got to pull these sleds out start them put new gas in them and wax them! We only went on one 20 mile ride this last winter and that was on the year befores gas. Of course we use non ethanol but still I gotta get all that out now before I start it.

And the scenery and family picnics. Nothing like blasting to the top of a mountain and shutting down the sled and just look at the valleys and mountains.

My wife had a panther and she misses it sometimes.
I sold my trailer and I'm starting to collect steel to make a sled deck.

i'm a little hooked on the styles from the mid 90's to the early 2k. trouble getting used to the new styles... look like a 4 wheeler with skis...

just me...

I was at the scrap metal yard and a worker hit my truck. The manager came over and told me to get an estimate on the damages. One $1200 one $800 he said $1000 I said yes! I pulled the passenger panel the next day on my lunch hour at work and kick the dent back out and put the panel back on. And started my search for my first snowmobile with my $1, 000 budget and bought one for $800, loaded it in the back of my truck and took it for a ride. Got a nice little 340 electric start for my girlfriend at the time for $480? I think and finally found a ride on ride off trailer for $500. Rode for a couple of years and sold as a his/her's all in one package for $2500. And stair stepped up from there addind $$ each time.
Where there's a will there's a chance... Might not be your time yet.

I totally understand what you're saying and it was not hard to make the switch to really liking how the new style looks once you get a chance to ride one. just really no explaining it.

Yeah that day in post #41 my sled is pictured there in front with the coat on the handlebars and that's a 2003 that was all tricked out by the previous owner and it could not even come close to climbing like one of the newer sleds that day. Not to say there"s nothing my new sled couldn't climb, but so far hang on and yeeee-haaaa!!!!

As far as safety goes I tell people who don't sled and think it's dangerous to look at the fatality reported and there are always three factors, not on a OFSC trail (riding the road), alcohol and night time. Any two of these and your in trouble all three and there is a high chance of serious injury or death.

When I got back into it 20 yrs ago with my wife and young children some guys kidded me about being a wuss so I went for a weekend with them. All we did was ride fast all day long and saw nothing did nothing just bragging about how far or how fast you went that day, HATED IT.

I realised there are so many places you can't get to unless your on a snowmobile. Now we tour from town to town, meet people and ride with them to find hidden local spots not found on maps, take pictures and have a fuull enjoyable day with real things to talk about.

I do like the speed and every once in awhile taking my RX1 120mph across the lake is a rush and quiets my addiction for fast.

Never been on or around a snowmobile. Wouldn't get to use one much here in Oklahoma! MAYBE once a year if I'm lucky.

Are all of the newer ones 4 stroke? Is 4 stroke preferred over 2 stroke? I LOVE 2 stroke 4 wheelers and currently have a Yamaha Banshee with CPI pipes, the sound and sudden power delivery is so addicting. I would like to make a trip somewhere and go ride a snowmobile for a few days.
