The analog dwell meter my old man used years ago is long gone so I'm looking for recommendations from folks on what works, what to stay away from etc. Any help is appreciated.

Dwell- what is that? How few people even know! How often will you be checking dwell? Your money might be better spent on a meter that has multi functions, for example volts/ ohms/ dwell, 4cyl,6cyl, 8cyl. Try to get good quality as these are more accurate. Others can help with specific recommendations.

Most of the modern ones are digital, built into an automotive style DMM. Decent ones start at around 50-75 bucks, and go from there. Fluke has em, there are lots of them on the big auction site. Amazon has 'em too.

Spend your money on a Pertronix conversion and you wont need the dwell/tach meter.

Yeah I've seen those, but part of this exersize is to show my 16 year old how this stuff works. Eventually, we'll do an HEI conversion but for now it's points.

What you want old school analogue? I have a bunch for sale $25 and up depending on what you want really. There is a DMM one I really like that I have on flea bay for around 30 shipped. For teaching there is nothing like a analog to show visually what adjustments do not just a number.

I actually prefer analog meters for that reason. Feel free to send me links/info. Thanks

I will Tach dwell? I will post the pics here in the am. Been getting them for next year at Carlsisle and fixing them as needed getting some cool stuff in like this set. This is for that garage!

That almost looks like my collection of meters except no 2 of mine are the same brand and have all been purchased over years as needed to work on the cars latest was a gunnerson (english) timing light from market stall cost me $10 and is heavy cast zinc construction and chromed only problem i have is my plug clip falls onto the exhaust manifold and melts no matter where i seem to route it

Yes! If its inductive clamp it somewhere away from the exhaust.
Is it the old style - plugs into the wire and plug? Then maybe at the cap if its spark plug type cap. Otherwise - some twine or such to the hoodlatch.

Here you go.
I have a few of the old sun ones restored buy they go 100 and up
