Buddy of mine has a 54 New Yorker with a hemi. He looking to get rid of the car and I would buy it just for the motor. The car has been sitting for about 4 years. It runs and drives. The car itself isn’t much but like I said I just want it for the engine. Thanks

‘54 New Yorker should have a 331 Chrysler Hemi. That would be the more desirable 331 with the normal length bellhousing, not like the 51-53 331’s with the extended bell.

If it’s in complete and running condition the engine by itself is probably worth a good $1,500 or more depending on how it’s set up and it’s overall condition.

Even just a good non-running core is usually worth $500-$1k depending on condition and completeness.

I've seen good running 331's go for $1000+

Depends how well it runs I guess...is it using oil? Good compression? Factor in a rebuild for at least a few thousand on the low side if it's worn out.

Cool factor is very high in a street rod, especially if you find something like a prewar Plymouth coupe.

A runner 331 short bell motor like that '54 is worth easily 1000-1500. Plus if it comes in a New Yorker carrying case, you can part the rest of that out too. Building a rod? Can't beat an ol' Hemi for cool points, and TORQUE!

You need to make SURE it has the good oval exhaust port heads too. Then for sure, if it runs good, has no water in the oil and doesn't smoke a lot, it's around 1500 for sure. They aren't a gold mine like the 392, but they are still a Hemi. More than 1 HP per cubic inch is easily reachable with the right mods.

no I'm not building a rod. maybe some day. I just figured these are hard to come in good running shape so I thought I would grab it if I could get it at a reasonable price. then I will put it on an engine stand and look at it. lol

I remember seeing a Fire-power hemi at Pick-a-part in the already pulled motors section. $150! Of course that was 1985......
