Been there, dont that!

My brother and I built houses together, I loved the building, the people not so much.

This, and dealing with some of the brand new shiny junk parts that they bring you to use. I don't know how many times I told people " Brand new junk is still junk." There are some people that are great to deal with, usually they assemble their own engines and have mic's and bore gauges to check your machine work. They are the ones that appreciate, and are willing to pay for your time.

Well my motor that was built by mike and it leaked oil from several areas. It leaked twice on the dyno through the rear main. Mike charged me for machine work but now that its at another shop i found out he never ported the heads, didnt machine or redeck the block. I bought his roller lifters and 1 failed after less the 1500 miles. I know why he is out of business. There are alot of people with my same story. I had at least 8 others contact me after i gave him a honest bad review. Mikes reply was that no builder guarantees a motor from leaking oil.

Well i am sure he treated most well. Mike was rude when i questioned him after my dyno session wanted paid and said the leak will clear up. I put it back in my car and it leaked again. The intake leaked around the bolts. Because he didnt use sealer.I paid him well for his services only to find out now what he didnt do. It made good HP on the dyno but after we found no porting in the heads i think they fudged numbers on the dyno test. Easy to do just Google.i hope mike does read this and responds. He also installed a rear main in backwards on another friends 318 build he did.

That's bullshit.
I warranty 1 year, machine work, assembly, port work, balance... and yes, that its sealed.

There are exceptions, like race parts failing and taking out the entire motor.

Other peoples **** mostly fails because it was put together wrong, be it parts/maching/procedure...or even used in the wrong application/beyond its capacity. Your definition of wrong can vary.. but the end results are very similar.

Well i agree. Mike charged me to fix the seal the last time and it leaked again. My new builder garentees the same as you do.this motor is leaking everywhere i found after i pulled it.

Not excusing it or defending him, more surprised as this is the first I've read anything negative on Mikes work. Wow.

If you have proof that you paid for port work and he didn't do it, you can take him to court.

Man, why are good machine shops impossible to find?!

My 418 Stroker leaked on the Dyno. It looked like it was a oil pan gasket issue so I said I would put a new gasket on it before I installed it in the car. I installed it in the car and found that it leaked again. I bought dye and a ultraviolet flashlight (about $20.00 for both from Amazon) and it it looked like the pan gasket was leaking again. Pulled the motor and changed the gasket, we were looking at the main seal and my buddy Larry said "should we change that as well?" Me being in a hurry to get it running, said "NAW it looks like the pan gasket let's just put it in." Well you guessed it, it leaked again!!! I bought a new seal from Superformance, clocked it and put just a very light smear of RTV on the 2 end pieces (as recommend by Greg at Superformance) and my engine is totally sealed. No leaks, no embarrassing smoke pouring out from under the car. I highly recommend this seal, cost me $29.00 delivered but worth it.

I've made mistakes too. Mike/MRL is long gone and now we gunna slap him?

(Tongue in cheek) Bobby Gentry said it best, "have the preacher organize a 'vestigating committee to see what going on!"

MRL is dead. Don't dig it back up.

And by a new member... one who just joined yesterday...

On a slightly happier note. My ex-cylinderhead porter will be featured in the Idaho Falls Post Register newspaper this weekend, in recognition of his new head work.
That's awesome.

I never heard anything about poor machine work, or bad customer service, concerning him, all I ever heard about him was his exaggerated bogus dyno numbers.

Timing is everything.
Do it to soon.. and everyone might jump your **** and call you a liar, ban you even because he was a vendor here with all the usual cheerleaders defending....
I never believed his ****.
I was even irritated because he came out of nowhere and got all this attention and touting of this work being so good, Dyno numbers astronomical.... yeah, that is because his "bullshit" was out of this world.

I've lost work because of people like him.
Any ******** with some money can buy fancy tooling and a dyno and do marginal work, but pictures and phoney numbers suck everyone in... they dont wanna miss the boat....well the boat sank idiots....

So far... every builder 'who is a vendor on this site' has fkd something up and had someone say something unfavorable. They usually stop frequenting the site shortly after so that they aren't attacked and "drug out onto the street" in a thread for bashing and complete demolishing of their rep and biz.
Now to the guy who said mike got an attitude with him... last machine shop guy who gave me a bunch of **** got socked at the next car show. Treat people how they treat you... but always start off pleasant...let them be the one to take it there ...then just wind up on them.

Sounds like you've got a lot of anger built up against him.

I'm not defending nor attacking MRL, not my place too.

That said,i was burnt by a shop that had been in business nearly 35 years and had a great rep locally. That shop destroyed my 440 block and pretty much told me to shove it. So I don't think we can go by length of time in the business either. It's almost like playing Russian Roulette but instead of there being just one loaded round, there's 5.
