Hi, New to the forum and have a few tech questions. I ended up getting a Wrangler barn find for $400 came with a 78 360 .030 over and a bunch of new parts. New pistons Speed Pro H405P flat top 4 relief cuts. I'm researching builds and wanting to get the best performance I can without tons of money. Here are my plans if they work the new pistons are on stock rods, 4" stroker crank, 96 5.9 heads and Hughes 360 whiplash cam. The only thing not written in stone is the crank. The new pistons have a compression height of 1.637in and I research the stroker pistons the compression height is 1.459in. There is .178in more piston on my set. Would having the 4" stroker crank create a drastic issue with valves and head clearances. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Just wondering, why is that cam choice in stone?

Just a thought? Maybe go this route? My 408 stroker. Lol

My 408! I would help you, but the machine shop purchased my crank, Eagle rods, and KB pistons. I am not sure even what the specs were. Rod

Those pistons would be sticking out of the block... but if heads could hold them the cylinder pressure with that wimptrash cam would have it grenading on pump gas

Get the right pistons for the stroke.

Thanks guys, I've got the stock crank. What would be a good cam recommendation it's going in a Jeep Wrangler with 5 speed. I don't need a ton of horsepower but it would be fun. I guess I didn't get lucky enough to get a stroker in all the parts I got. Just wasn't sure .178 was going to create that much of a change. Great looking motors.

dont think about a cam till you get your pistons and compression ratio worked out
what kind of jeep use, what gears, tires
lots of difference with a rock crawler application and a off road racer or snow plow
do you have a 4" stroke crank
the piston stock crank combination will give you a very low compression ratio
Speedpro h116cp or kb107 are the pistons that will get ya there..
Speedpro H405 pistons, what to expect for performance?
do some research
which heads- casting number please
do the math- get the results you MUST learn how to calculate deck height/clearance, compression ratio, etc

Why build a stroker? I owned a jeep for awhile and had a complete good know magnum to swap in. Realized i didnt want to upgrade the whole drivetrain. So i left it alone and got rid of the magnum.

The stock 5 speed will likely grenade, then the axles, driveshafts, the transfer case is probably a bit too weak also. Why don't you just build the 360 and use the new pistons you already have. Throw some magnum heads on it if you desire. Or find some X or J heads and have them cleaned up and put a mild cam in it. It'll be very cheap since you have most of it from the sounds of it. And if you truly need more power you can always build a 408 while you are driving the jeep around with a 360.

good question
I usually did the center two over the outside two and the intersection of the outside two looks questionable
