Posting for info only and to help others.

I've fought high temps on my 440 dart since day 1. I'm blowing it all apart and redoing everything regarding cooling. Water pump/housing, radiator, fans...all new.

There's been lots of talk regarding casting on the 440source water pump housings having smaller passages. Supposedly a manufacturing flaw that was corrected. I bought mine maybe 2-3 years ago. AFTER all the drama was fixed.

Well...hard to measure, but I can tell you without a doubt there passages are smaller than the Mancini Pump Housing. in the 440 source passages my finger can barely wiggle. In the Mancini one...I have at least 3/16-1/4" wiggle room. Doesn't sound like much...but I think it's notable.

Also feel like the 440source water pump design isn't helping things.

Anyway...just info for the masses to help others make decisions.

dont forget about your pump pulley to crank ratio.
 
So, is one of them a rebuilt core ?
The restrictive one will probably also need more horsepower to turn, or current for an electric pump.

Given the likelihood of aluminum corrosion on a mixed-metal engine, I'd run the thicker-walled casting and find the real problem in a New York Minute.

As in, that one with the thinner hose spigot would already be on the classified page and I'd port the motor-side where there's plenty o beef.

I drove mine again yesterday , got up to 198 , was only about 90* tho.
I bought mu alum pump housing off ebay, and checked it against the orig. 440 Chrysler pump, didn`t take much to clean it up and make the passages bigger---------

I had the exact same experience on my 451. The 440source housing was marginal at best. The Mancini housing made a big difference in reducing the temps. No other changes made to the rest of the cooling system.
 
Here is a stock iron housing vs. an Ebay aluminum housing. Mopar shops want way too much for a stupid housing and I bet they are all pretty much the same. For the pump, I don't trust the cast impeller design. The stamped is what was used by the factory.

I'm running a .040" over 440 in Yuma, driving in 107 degree temps without an issue. 6 blade fan, thermal clutch, 26" radiator, fan shroud. Sitting in traffic at these temps it goes to 200 degrees, driving is solid at 195 degrees.

Before I would change the housing, I’d get a Flowkooler water pump. They work, hands down the best out there.
 
I would run Evans coolant in any car that has a overheating problem.
 
I won't run the Source housings. P.O.S. in my experience. I run factory housings, and I like the Milodon water pump if it needs to be cool, although the stock parts store "with AC" versions have also worked fine.
 
The pass side 1 is the 1 I have on my 470 stroker in my race car. Hottest day I’ve raced on was 36 degrees Celsius. Kept it cool. Kim
 
I used the 440 source pump and housing on my duster and it has worked great. Temp is rock solid.
Flowkooler pump is just a gmp of whatever, parts store overseas pump with a plate tacked on. I've used both and I was pretty mad when I realized that, although when my flowcooler leaked, they did warranty it. I think they have a lifetime warranty.
 
I have passenger side 440 source housing that was on clearance dirt cheap and have no issues in 90+ heat.
 
The one I had the passages were about 30% smaller, but the big issue was the holes for the thermostat housing holes were not drilled in a way that would allow a housing to be bolted down. They were way off. I won’t bother with them for that particular part again.
