I got mine to rest in the vent cut outs.

could easily be drilled for longer bolts and have them catch on the windshield edge of the hood proper.
Although there are rubber sleeves on the pins as supplied.

It's basically made of angle iron.

Mine was cheap because (I surmise) both extension arms are the same (IE both have the angle iron oriented the same way making the assembly asymmetrical).

The "hard" part to make would be the part that attaches the arms to the engine hoist.
It's still angle iron, but it's welded with the tolerance of the thickness of the engine hoist square tube in mind.
