I'm swapping my drums on my 71 dart to 1973 disks.

Do I need to swap the LCA, or can I use my original ones?

Typically you need the disc brake spindles but I think Dr diff sells a $20 shim to make them work. it's what I would have done had I not had the 73 discs already.

I orders the whole shebang (all the parts, spindles, LCA, UCA, Everything) from white punk nitro. I just rebuilt my front end like a year ago, so if i dont have to clean, paint and install now bushings in the 73 LCA that would be nice.

Okay yellow rose write your check! LOL:poke:

Also it doesn't hurt to get the proper setup and have everything done, I hear that.
So not yellow rose he needs to get his lazy *** going.
I was out on the street today testing my yellow rose killer cam and it's a whole heck of a lot of fun with that Stroker. Just bought around the corner in second gear at about 1 grand and stab it and those dual quads just ignite the back tires!
I take pay pall....
;)

So...... do I need to swap the LCA?
No

The LCA’s are the same unless they have sway bar tabs.

Oh now I remember it's the ball joints. The drum brake control arm has a smaller diameter ball joint so you need the 73 and later bigger ball joint to go into the bigger spindle. That's where you get the Shim from Dr diff that makes your small ball joint fit the bigger hole for the disc brake spindle.

No sway bars, drag car. In fact I just threw front and rear sway bars in the scrap bin....

Just to be clear, only the upper ball joint is the large one right?
I can use my old 71 LCA, correct?

Ok thanks!

Lowers will stay on the car. That will save me some time.

Exactly. I don’t know why j par keeps talking about upper ball joint spacers since you asked about the lower control arm.

The lower ball joints have different bolt spacing on the earlier drum spindles, but you just buy a disk brake lower ball joint, no need to change the LCA at all.

I know Mancini sells the ball joint sockets, anyone know of another vendor or some other way of R&R ball joints with out the socket?

I think the last one I bought (small ball joint socket) was like 70 bucks and took forever to arrive.

you're correct I knew there's something you had to do if someway the conversion to make it easier and I figured if I just babbled some stupid crap out someone like yourself would come in and make sure it was corrected thank you.

Admit it, you're bored, and just trying to beat Memike's post count . lol

Actually I use my phone most the time and only a few times do I actually turn my phone sideways and can see the post counts and stuff like that.
Usually the people who talk about it are the ones who are worried about it...?

I try to keep it brief, accurate and pertinent.
"Just the facts ma'am, just the facts". lol
Cheers.

Autozone has them to lend.

oh I forgot to mention this always drive people nuts but I've never used anything but a pair of old channel locks on those.

The factory torque spec for the upper ball joint is 125 ft/lbs. You're not going to get anywhere close to that with a set of channel locks.

But I'm sure that was just a vague suggestion from the engineers, probably no reason for it.
