Ok all
I aquired a 66 B-cuda that has an 8 1/4 rear end in it. it is not a "sure grip", but a one legger.
My question is..... what parts do I need to make it a sure grip,,,,,,,? I have no experience with 8 1/4 rears
All answers appreciated.
Thanks Dave

The centre “carrier” has the clutch packs in it. Takes a bit to swap it, with the help of a shop manual its doable.

I was looking for one up here.
Too darn pricey, 8-1/4” easy to find, and im not building a dragster so it will do fine. Parts arent that pricey either. But finding a sure grip in canuckistan is still difficult.

grab a sure grip dakota rear and use the carrier , find one with 355 would be a
nice plus

If you want a pure Mopar Sure Grip there is really only one choice, but there are a lot of aftermarket choices for the 8.25.

Here's a couple, but I just did a Google search for Chrysler 8.25 positraction.
I used positraction on purpose instead of Trac Loc or Limited Slip to get a wide variety of results.
Most all the major rear end companies have them for the 8.25 and various manufacturers and types also.
There is a shitload of aftermarket parts support for the 8.25, and then of course there is Ebay.

Some Jeeps also use the 8 1/4 rear. Spline counts changed at one point.
Just FYI Jeep calls them Dana 35 if you ask at the yard. Some come with a tone ring easily removed.

Hello, my name is Thorsten. I'm from Germany.
My question is: does the Trac loc fit from the Dana 35 into the Mopar 8.25 axle?
I have the possibility to get a dana 35 trac loc very cheap.
Greetings from Germany

Cool, is there anything to consider except the splines?
Which bearings can I take?
Can I keep the 3.23 Mopar Ratio, or do I have to take the 3.55 from the Dana 35?

Are you sure it's a 8 1/4?

Does this locker work good? I had considered it before but went with an auburn suregrip unit instead. I think mine is a cone type. Also remember that Detroit locker makes a locker also but now days it costs about 800 bucks plus!! Ouch.
It converts an open carrier to a detroit style locker. Yes, they work good.
