Is it true that Mopar used the ford toploader for some of their cars or was it a company making conversion bellhousings for a mopar motor and the top loader trans?
 
Nope, they used the Borg Warner T10 before the 833 was in production.
 
Yes, T10's and A833's are 4 speeds. A833od's are still a 4 speed. Passion Performance has redesigned the A833 into a 5speed.
 
You can buy a Lakewood scatter shield that would allow you to run the Ford top loader behind a Chevy or Mopar. We ran a toploader behind our BB 69 Camero in the mid 70's. So we could get the 2.78 first gear.

Mopar ran a French POS before that! (well, only 15 were built but you could get one...1960 300F 4sp available on short ram intakes only?)
