I have a new dual circuit cylinder for my Lancer. It has no provision for a boot nor did one come with it. What is the purpose of the boot? Keep fluid out of the car if it leaks? Any one know?

Thanks. I took the original cylinder retainer clip, spring, boot and gasket, cleaned them up and reused them on the new cylinder. There is no lip for the boot but it fits in the bore, the spring keeps it tight and it should work. Gona see what happens!
