What is the best head for a small block.

Did you miss the part where I said low lift, low RPM tow rig? The thread is on speed talk. It might be 8-10 pages back but it's there.

I learn. All the time. And I learned I don't love flow numbers and I don't fall in love with low lift numbers.

I will say this. Junk heads make junk power. Usually flow has little to do with it. You can have 300 CFM and have a dong beater, and you can have 330 CFM out of the same casting and it's a pig. And, let's say the 330 CFM has a smaller cross section.

Horsepower is horsepower. Flow is flow. The two aren't in each other's hip pockets. More than once I've lost flow across the board and made more power. That's because flowing a head is an I exact science.

I'm going to start charging for this info.

Dude,YR,clear out your inbox!, gotta catch up a bit lol

Ok. I must be the only guy who has a full box. I empty that thing out and turn around and it's full.

I keep saying I need a gold membership just for that, but I don't know if Joey would give me the approval.

Sometimes I don't play well with others. That's what my wife says.

I'd love to ask those idiots why they went to studs and guide plates.

Oh wait, I know the answer. It's cheaper.

It isn't better. Virtually no one uses studs any more. In spite of the fact that Crower (IIRC) developed the "ball stud" 383 and someone else did a "ball stud" Hemi that were a bust.

The GM freaks spent years trying to prove shaft rockers aren't needed. Now, you can't hardly find anyone with the IQ above a toaster using studs on any type of performance application.

IQ above a toaster! Oh the shame! How close is that to an IQ of........say.......52? The clown who designed this.

OOOO That's cool
Are those Magnum heads drilled for LA covers & intake?

I am looking into what are some good heads out there for the small block. I want something in aluminum and flows good out of the box..
So..... have we made A decision?
And just what is it you’re doing with your car?

Nope. Those are LAX heads drilled for stud mounted rocker arms, with the stud girdle mounted to the head bolts and rocker shaft pedestals. Single 4-bbl, 423ci/360 on pump gas that made 474 lb-ft @ 3,000 rpm, 574 lb-ft @ 5,100 rpm, 595 hp @ 5,600 rpm and 629 hp @ 6,400 rpm where we shut it off. Toaster IQ52 and his son's magic. Are we having fun yet Rosey?

I always have fun. I just never get the love for stud mounted rockers. I know some guys (especially the Chevy guys who think GM made everything as God would have and think GM engineers **** gold and wipe their *** with 100 dollar bills) think they have some benefits, but I don't see them.

Can you bring the link up to that thread? Thanks

Well I certainly understand that viewpoint. And I must say, I will never do another setup like that stud system. Especially as I now have the equipment to do the rocker shaft adjustments for myself like B3RE does.

FYI, I really enjoy your very entertaining posts. Don't always completely agree, but still enjoy.

2400lbs with a 408. Prostreet with some racing. 14x32 tire backhalfed 904 trans
With that weight, and a pair of pro comp heads you should do easy low 10's.

Hi... is it gonna be bad to run a single non smog head on a 74? I plugged egr holes on other side and the egr itself is plugged.

Well I went with a Gen 3 hemi 5.7 being built with forged pistons h beam rods cam and some ported Eagle heads. Should be fun.. May hang a turbo on it just for some fun.
