Got a 8.25 out of a 73 Dart Sport 340 going in my 73 Duster. Got it stripped down to blast and powder coat. Figured I might as well freshen it with bearings seals ect. I want to get rid of the crush sleeve with a solid shimmed spacer. Looked on Ratech and their # is 4114 for the spacer kit. They give dimensions of a little less than 0.5 inch. My old crush collar measures 2.975 used. It looks like one for a 8 3/4 489 case. What gives? got a part # Emailed Ratech still waiting for a reply.LOL

pinion bearing solid spacer Ratech 4114 is correct for the 8 .25 rear axle --- why you have a crush collar for a 489 case 8-3/4 rear axle in your 8.25 is the mystery ,obviously someone screwed up in the past--- you should have had a simple collar of about .440 - .450 crushed length

Thanks John. I got a reply from Ratech saying it sounds like I am working on 8 3/4 not a 8 1/4. I do know the diff on these diffs. When I tore this apart it looks Virgin never apart. Guess I will just order the 4114 and see what shakes out. Only $14 at summit. Did Mopar use a spacer Akin to the solid ones used on a 741 case to take up the room between the bearings then add the sleeve? FYI this has 321 gears open carrier.

Just watched a Youtube video Chrysler Master Tech 1969, volume 69-5 showing the large collapsable spacer. When did the split come between the older and newer diffs? Thinking 1969 to 1975 the 76 and up use the smaller sleeve. Guess you cant get a solid spacer for the older diffs? Looked on Yukon Gears site and they show the same eliminator for all 8 1/4s . Now to find a collapsable sleeve.

just watched the same video and interesting that the early 8-1/4 used a similar crush sleeve to the 8-3/4 --- someone on here must have access to early service manuals and could chime in with the year that first shows the smaller late model crush sleeve.
before you buy the solid spacer , i would measure the crush sleeve you took out to see how it compares size wise to the crush sleeve for the 489 case --- if close on length ( which is 3.00 inches ) and other dimensions ,, i see no reason why you could not use it in your rebuild.
if you can't find an original longer crush sleeve ,,,another option you have is the stack a .020 shim on top of the old crush sleeve this would give you some free play and be able to crush the sleeve to the pinion preload needed.

Just for a compare I looked on E bay and found a later gear set. The pinion is stepped like a 741 so the 4114 spacer would work. My pinion is tapered using the long one. I dont think a 489 spacer will work because of bearing and pinion size is larger. Dont have a 489 to look at anyway. Good idea on a shim though. Gonna hit NAPA today and see what they have available. I am still on the hunt for an A body 8 3/4, getting hard to find for a decent price.
