A friend of mine is having a engine built, and wants to go .070 over the stock 440 bore. I am having 2 blocks sonic checked, what is the max overbite for a stock 440 block ?

Not sure I'd go over 0.060, not to mention @ 0.070 over your looking at custom pistons. 65'

What compression height do you need?

The sonic test will tell you want you can do. The condition of the bore will tell you what you must do, as far as cleaning it up. Mopar valve pocket pistons are a shelf item to at least 4.402. S/F....Ken M

The engine is for NHRA Stock, know it will be a custom piston. But it will have to be NHRA approved. I looked up the rules, for Stock a max overbore of .080 is allowed. Is .080 possible with a stock block ?

Many class racers sleeve all 8 holes, if that's what they need to get all the inches they're allowed.

You should be working with a shop who has done this before, ideally they should do it routinely. S/F...Ken M

Thanks for the replies, dropping off at the machine shop to be sonic checked.

If ur building anything for the National Hog Raisers Association sleeve it to start with, u got the coin !!

I've successfully gone .060.

I agree with going with a shop that has gone down this road before

.060" for early blocks, .040" for later blocks . If .080" is desired extra thick sleeves are required along with a filled block at least 1/2 way up , sleeved lifter bores . Stock eliminator motors require super precision machining and capable of revving to the moon . Example : C/SA Roadrunner 440 , burnouts @ 8,000 rpm , shifts @ 8,200 rpm , 5500 rpm torque converter stall . Not for the faint of heart .
