I have a 67 Dart, I put the carbureted 6.1 Hemi in, I used the MSD Hemi6 controller with it. I am looking for recomendations on timing settings and MAP settings. played with it a littel bit but the car does not accelerate like it should. if you keep the RPM's up it runs great. but jumping on it from a low RPM it wants to fall on it's face.

Personally I would not use the MAP sensor to start if you think you are having timing issues. Set the advance to am RPM based map, just like an old school car. 12 crank, 15-20 initial and 35 all in by say 3500 and see how it responds. This eliminates one variable that can be added back in later for fine tuning.

Also can you tell us exactly what's happening? is it just low power? Does it fall on it's face? Could this actually be a carburetor issue?

Not an expert here. But I have read that the hemi does not do well with timing that high. I would do tons of research before putting that much in. Might work, but the stuff I have read stated lower. Again, I am not a guru with gen iii stuff.

Hey you are probably correct. I found this thread on FABO, looks like what the O/P is looking for.

5.7 0r 6.1 with msd hemi 6 and carb

there is a huge issue with that intake. transition issues due to open plenum. check out the g3 hemi swap page on fb and see if joe can help ya out.

I have that same intake, just on a 5.7. I had similar issues when I was running a carb as well. It just would not transition from cruise to power on a quick hit of the throttle. I could roll into it, but couldn't stab it or it would fall on its face. I fought and fought with carb settings, but ended up getting a Megasquirt fuel injection setup cheap and went that route before I got the carb sorted. I would look toward that over the timing though. I'm also not sure how much faith I put in the stock maps MSD has with their kits, but I guess I don't have a dyno to prove it. I ended up putting in the closest thing I could get to a factory timing map in my car (converted the base table to the two graph MSD setup as best I could) with a few degree reduction across the board (because I don't have knock sensors) since I know that's what the engine was designed with. Been pretty happy with it, but I know I'm likely leaving something on the table.
