69 Dart Disc Brake Conversion

-
There are a lot out there. I used the one from Stainless Steel Brake Corporation. I wasn't cheap, but it works GREAT!

Hi all,

Could anyone recommend a good disc brake conversion for an A body?

Was looking on Summit Racing and found SSBC and Right Stuff Detailing as per link Right Stuff Detailing 4-Wheel Disc Brake Conversion Kits MDC46DC

Has anyone used any of these kits or could anyone recommend a kit?
For street use only on a stock car.

Thanks
I purchased and installed the Right Stuff 4 wheel disk brake kit on my 71 Dart, but changed it up bit as I did not use the supplied brake proportioning valve. I used one of their OEM disc brake proportioning valves, minus the small add-on block. You may have trouble with the e-brake cables as the ones I got with the kit where even length. I had to purchase a separate long e-brake cable. The kit came with the small offset power brake booster and has worked very well, the car pulls down very quickly on emergency stops.
I did have some trouble getting the brake lines to seal properly to the calipers and the master cylinder has the typical leaking around the cap problem, I'm looking to replace it with a unit with screw on caps. Price was good if I remember correctly it was around $1200 bucks everything.

Thanks for your insights... The reviews on the products seemed mixed, so good to hear from someone who has done the install.

I see your in New Zealand so shipping might cost you a bunch, I don't know. But if you can find a 1973 or newer A body with factory disc brakes on it over there you can rob all the parts you need off of it.

Wilwood by a mile . the street kit has short studs & the drag kit has 3" studs. Use 10" drum brake spindles .

Did these come with rear discs in 73?

5x4 rear discs might be a challenge. Wilwood would be the only one i would think might have these otherwise custom. If your going to swap to 4 wheel disk why not just go 5x4.5? Wheel options open up greatly. FYI, 73-up stock front discs widen the track, so keep in mind what you want to run for wheels as the may not come in the offset you need.

I too used the SSBC front disc brake kit on my '71 Dart GT. Very complete kit. I was also able to keep my 5 X 4" small bolt pattern Rallye wheels.
