got a chance to uncover these today and am wondering what they could tell me - read some conflicting stuff on (VON/SON)- anyone know what these numbers relate to or a source to decode? they do not seem to match directly to the VIN - I have no fender tag. It reads:B8B276591

ok - I see it is a sequence number that is supposed to also appear on the fender tag. No direct relation to the VIN number and no info about the car details like paint, trim, options , etc. Was hoping it could tell me something about the original car. VIN tells me a few things anyway.

1st digit may be a "P" not B.
Do the digits match the last ones in vin? I believe they should.
5th digit if its "P" it's a formula s car.

First letter is pretty clearly a B. Stuff on this stamping that appears in the VIN are the "B8B" and the "27" . In the VIN I know the B8B is 225 slant 6 single barrel, 1968, Hamtramck, and the 27 is convertible.

1968 had unique body codes...Assembly plant,Model year, 1st digit of VIN, and Sales Order Number...ie: B8X XXXXXX.

"1968 had unique body codes...Assembly plant,Model year, 1st digit of VIN, and Sales Order Number...ie: B8X XXXXXX."

I wonder if there is a source that can use that data to get more information on the original vehicle. Seems a sales order number could be backtracked to the actual sales order and all the data it might contain.

B8B as the body number prefix;

B - Barracuda

8 - 1968 model year.

B - Hamtramck assembly plant.

look on the radiator cross member. See if you can find the same #'s. They should be the sales order #

You need the fender tag, and , failing that, the broadcast sheet, to find out more info

The numbers should be on the top of the member. here is a picture of one:

cool pic, thnx - -Well... that's interesting, found radiator support number, it matches the trunk lip number - B8B276591. Clear when you are looking at it from motor side vs. grille side (i.e upside down) lol.
