When are the two lights in the middle supposed to come on? I’ve pressed the brakes, put it in reverse, used the turn signals, turned on the running lights, and the headlights. They never come on.

Turn the key to the on position, put shifter in reverse, go to the trunk remove the bulb should be a single pin socket. check for 12 volts with either a volt meter or test light. If you have power, most likely bad bulbs or no ground. If you have no voltage there, its the switch in the transmission. Remove the plug, should be a 3 wire, one for the neutral safety sw and 2 wires for the back up lights. Check the harness there, for 12 volts, one wire should have power. If you have 12 volts there, then its a bad switch.

Trying it tomorrow, thanks!

Well, it turns out there isn’t any wiring to the switch! The switch is there (one prong is bent), but no wiring! I looked all the way under the trunk and nothing. I wonder why the state inspection guys passed the car... probably didn’t know the lights were supposed to come on. Oh well, at least I now I have my work cut out for me. Thanks for the tips fellas.

This is a stick shift? Was the car originally an automatic?
