Finally getting to it!!! 1970 Duster 340

-
I spoke to Mike yesterday It sounds like the Duster should be coming back to my home the end of next week! Can't wait to start wrenching on her again. Here's a pic of the roof before polish.

Just finished installing the fuel tank, fuel/brake lines and body schutz. Painting the rear interior metal quarter & upper door opening molding this afternoon. I will be installing the rear springs and 8-3/4 rear with casters on the front in the morning so there's no reason for this car to go back to Steve's shop first, it's going straight to Kevin's house. I will do one more quick foam pad polish then a final wax once everything is completed.

It was a big day for the Duster. She came off the rotisserie for the last time! Body schutz has been applied to all 4 fender wells. Overspray looks just like I wanted.

The Duster is back on her own wheels........at least 2 of 4! Mike and Kenny finished up some odds and ends on her this morning. She should be making the trip back to my house soon.

A Body factory passenger side exhaust hanger bracket.
Here you go. Finally, so much fine tuning to get it right. Just have to drill the holes.

I am going to apply side stripes to the car. She would be very plain Jane without them.

I understand that the correct profile molding is not available. That makes my decision easier.

Did you get your car home yet?
I bet you are excited.

I just got my Duster out of the paint shop this past week, it was actually a really good experience, a guy I went to school with has his own shop painted my car.

I had most of the body work done, he just finished it up, he did what he said he would do, and had it done when he said it would be done.
I also had him slick the paint.

I'm glad that you had a good experience with your Duster. You're fortunate. Mine has not come home yet. I expect that she should be here Monday or Tuesday. I can't wait!

They got mine done in a month.

Now you have the tedious task of assembly without scratching anything.

I worked on my seat tracks this weekend. I hit the inside and outside liberally with oven cleaner, wrapped them in a plastic bag and let them sit overnight. Flushed them liberally with HOT water and scrubbed off most of the paint. Used a wire wheel to remove surface rust and then soaked both in Evaporust. I didn't feel the need to try to pull them apart as they worked nicely and I didn't want to get media inside from blasting. I hit them with a quick shot of primer. Just need to paint them black. They are buttery smooth even without lube.

I'm not the hold up, I've been waiting since Saturday, I'm waiting for Steve to bring me another car and pick up Kevin's Duster.

I finished painting my seat tracks last night. My adjuster wire that runs from the driver's side to the passenger track was broken. I checked all the local hardware and hobby shops but was unable to find a proper replacement. All the wires I found were just to malleable. The original wire measured .047 inches in diameter. I contacted a local piano tuner and purchased 4 ft of .045 wire from him yesterday. The piano wire is almost an exact duplicate for the original.....plus it only cost me $3.00! Score!

That's music to my ears!

Seat tracks are finished and installed. Still waiting for delivery of the car. I was hoping that the Duster would make it home this weekend, but that's not going to happen this weekend. Mike sent me this pic of the Duster last week. They were moving her from the shop into his clean storage area. It was nice to see her out in the daylight. I love Rallye red!
