Car Value & VIN Question

-
A 440, 4-sp, GTX. Your choice but building this near to original would mean that it would have some real value.

1967 GTX
Here is a 67 GTX on CL, maybe the one you are looking at? I would say its worth what he is asking for, being me I would talk him down....wheel and deal.

I'd only buy a "bill of sale only" car in a state that doesn't title cars over a certain age.

A 67 absolutely can be a matching numbers car with a different engine than it was originally built with.

...because there aren't any numbers to match. "Simply" find a correctly dated 440.
That's absolutely correct. Partial VIN on the engine & trans didn't start completely until model year 1969. Some late '68's may have had them as well. If you are going to put the correct engine and transmission back in a pre-69, you depend on casting numbers, date codes, and the part number on the trans to get it right. There are NUMEROUS date codes on a Mopar: engine, trans, intake, starter, alternator, horns, starter relay, wiper motor, cooling fan, fan spacer, etc etc . It will consume a lot of time tracking all that down assuming it's not with the car.

About the title...I now live in TN, which titles everything. Alabama is a mile away, and they only title to 30 years old now. If it's older, you carry in a bill of sale, and walk out with a tag. If it goes to a title-everything state, you take in the current out-of-state registration and proof of insurance, then you walk out with a tag and a title in the mail in a week. In other words there are ways to get a title. My position is if you end up with a title in your name, you own it, period.

It's difficult to get a title in Illinois. If it really was lost in a fire, a duplicate should be able to be obtained if the person named on the title is the one seeking a duplicate. Look around Illinois SOS website. You can check a vin to see the status of a title and registration. Won't tell you who owns it, but if it is in fact registered in Illinois. Old vin numbers do work as I looked up some of my old stuff and it shows registered, jumped, etc.

I would not spend anymore on the car, than you are willing to loose.

Before buying a car, bill of sale only, how can I verify it's not stolen beforehand?

Also......looking at a 1967 Plymouth GTX. What's it worth???

Factory 440 car, but no motor or trans. All glass is in tact, rear axle, tires and wheels

In fantastic condition. Sat inside a garage, on concrete for 40 years, very very minimal rust.

Also, no interior.........what would I expect to pay or what's the car worth in this condition?
On Bill of Sale, check with your state dmv, each state has different rules on bill of sale. On the 67 Plymouth depends on what you mean by no interior, if you are talking seats only or seats and dashboard gauges. Considering the car when finished would be around a value of $16 to 20K i would give no more than $10K as is. I have a 67 all original.
