comp cams xe284 cam?

a 318 is not a 360
And a 318 at 9.5 with a 285* cam and aluminum big ports,
has one mode of operation, namely WOT,
and at most other modes of operation, is a sure recipe for disappointment.
With an ICA of 68*, and at 9.5Scr, your Dcr is down at 7.33, about 1.5 to 2 full points down from optimum with aluminum heads. Your cranking pressure is predicted to be 145psi. A good 45 pounds low.
I get that this is a race-only application.
I get that you're not afraid of the hours that will go into the transfer of the top-end, or the hours to swap the engines over. And the hours to swap it back after the 360 comes back from the engine shop. I get that.
What I don't get is why not sell that nice zero-deck 318 shortblock. and just put the money into 360short, that can stay under the hood when yur done swapping.
The exact same parts in/on a zero-deck 360 is good for 10.7/8.3/170psi/.039Q.
If you pop the pistons up just .008, you get 10.9/8.44/174/.031Q ,and now you got yourself a tiger by the tail,
just about the same as my streeter @3467 with my 220 in the saddle.
BTW, mine runs 87E10 @ full timing, and has for over 100,000 miles. She's not as fast or quick as yours tho........ but I also don't have a 590cam in it,lol,
Whatever you decide, I get that you're a hard-worker, an admirable quality.
