Bought 5 Quick Picks. Today is my Birthday, What a hell of a Birthday present it would be............

Bought mine yesterday, to win that would be a birthday every day lol. Best of luck to all on here if you play.

Man and we are happy when we get the chance at $60,000,000 and a bunch of extra $1,000,000 draws!
Hell, I would likely gamble $100 on that........and I rarely gamble.

If any of you win, remember your son gdrill......or Uncle gdrill........or cousin gdrill......... :)

Here's my question......bear with me, it's a little complex. So, let's say there's a single winner. They win the 1B. Usually, people opt for the lump sum, which is "around" half of the pot. With me so far? So, half the pot is the lump sum, 500M. Taxes are "about" half, so that means after taxes, 250M. Simple so far, right?

So. Here's my question. Where's the "other" 500M go? I remember when the lottery came to Georgia. The big "to do" was that the school systems were going to get a huge chunk. We see from the dismal graduation rates, that was a lie. I agree that it's a tax for morons, but I do admit to buying the occasional ticket just for entertainment purposes. The LAST time I would do it would be with a real big pot like now. Your chances are better to get struck by lightning, or to have hot sex with a disease free, pre-plastic surgery Pamela Anderson......in other words, it ain't happenin.

So back to my question. Where's "the other half" go? It sure AS HELL ain't back into public education.

Taxes that other part goes to the tax, nice thing is it's a general tax for all state's that participate in it. And some goes to the store that sold the ticket.

I aint buyin that. The tax man gets his chunk from the 500M you won. They get around half that. About 250M.

The way it was explained on the news this morning was $500M was after taxes. AND to your point Rob I asked my wife the same damned question this morning. Where are all the new schools and bridges that were promised? BTW since there was no winner last night, the next drawing is projected to be $1.6B

SOMEONE wanna buy me a ticket and mail it to me and if I win I will give you 50 million tax free . if a Canadian won would he need to pay tax on it ?

If i won it, i would take the buy out for sure.
Then i would change my name to Hung Too Low or something funny like that just to hear the news reports on the radio and see it in the newspapers or hear it on T.V.
I would buy a whole tank of premium gas now that i could afford it.
Then i would build a halfway house for women who won't go all of the way.
I wouldn't quit my job, i have one more year to go to be eligible for early retirement, so i would stick it out so i don't lose the 35 grand that would be coming to me.
I would be phoning in sick a lot though............
And that's about it.

Big kerfuffle in FL as "new" lottery funds for schools were exchanged for funding already in place, netting zero new funding for schools. This was around 1990.

Still an issue and still comes up around election time.

Odds on getting struck by lightning and killed on the way to buy a ticket is better than odds of winning.

If The Winner is a Member, here, He or She can share it with all of the Members. -- --

Use to spend $20 on tickets. Not anymore. It only takes one to win. I win fine, I don't win, that's fine also.

I know a guy at work that spent 400 bucks on tickets. That's just stupid. I know I will never win because I never play. But I'd rather have my money know that I'm not gonna win then spend all my money chasing a pipe dream and still never winning. I will save my 2 bucks and week and eventually buy a new gun or car part lol

I just bought the first two lotto tickets I've ever bought, one power ball and one mega. I figure I'll frame 'em and when I look at 'em I'll be reminded of just how stupid buying lotto tickets really is

Buying lottery tickets (in moderation) is just entertainment. For a couple of bucks, you get to fantasize about a life far beyond the reality you know.

Not much different than buying a comic book as a kid.

You just have to hold the perspective that it’s just a few dollars for entertainment...nothing more.
