OK ...another unknown. My SL-6/225 ci for 1968 Dodge Dart 270 is RED from the factory. Where do you get correct RED paint and matching OEM p/n for color?

However ....friends say it should be LIGHT BLUE...dah????.

Confused...pls help. TRACTOR SUPPLY has best color match. Engine will be pulled, stripped, totally cleaned and de-greased, primed (?), and sprayed in shop. Is there special engine color paint suitable for heat/grease/oil contamination???

What color and p/n should I research/obtain/use?

Thx ...appreciate any help/comments/recommendations.

Up to 1970 I believe is red, after that it is Turquoise. Napa can order the paint if needed.

Do a search in this forum for “engine color” or “engine paint”. Slantsixdan commented some time ago on proper slant six colors based on model year. He also stated what Duplicolor paint to order to properly match the original red. For my 64 Dart it is Duplicolor DE1632 Chrysler red.

Mopar Performance paint is what I use.
They have paint in the correct red color.
Whatever paint you use, prep is key. Clean, Clean, and
then Clean again. The factory never used primer, so that's how
I go.

I believe the Mopar performance engine manuals cover the years and paint colors, complete with Mopar part numbers for factory colors but I'm away from home at the moment.

Or just paint every engine Hemi Orange and move on with your life.

Perhaps Duplicolor if painting on a rotating engine stand, but if painting w/ engine in the car, look at Rustoleum spray paint since you can spray at any angle even upside down.

I also went with Duplicolor Engine Paint, but couldn't locally find that Chrysler Red. Instead, I ended up going with their 'Chevrolet Red/Orange' color. I suppose that's a little blasphemous to use a Chevy color, but it turned out looking really well, so no big regrets.

The paint on the valve cover started flaking off after about a year, but I admit I didn't prep that as well. I re-painted it (same paint) but then put two coats of Duplicolor Engine Clearcoat over it. Turned out great and is holding up fine.

Went with EFI, the Holley Avenger 550-200 kit, which has been excellent.

Put 11,000 flawless miles (except for two Pertronix ignition failures) on that torquey slant-6. But my son recently pulled the entire drivetrain in favor of a 273 V8 project he’s doing for his engineering degree program.

That V8 got the same exact paint, and then a few coats of clearcoat on top.
