Purchasing a car from a private seller. Nightmare.

Or perhaps just because they have different tastes than you do...and being their car, can do what they choose.

Or is it too much to ask for people to live their lives the way they see fit without judgement?

Sorry, I thought this was America where each of us is born with an inalienable right to the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness.
Never said you couldn't pursue your right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness, but I also got my 1st amendment right to say if I think something's wrong or not and that color combination is wrong.

I hope the OP will send us some pics to show what the problem is found out to be and the fix.

The guy with the brown/yellow trim interior. It must be recognized when we make our "custom" work, that specially, IF the car is offered for sale, NOT everyone will like that custom treatment. Maybe one reason I have never taken a car to a show in 35 years. Not that my "customizizing" is ever more than adding a radio delete, or tach or mags, I just never wanted to hear "opinions" about my work !! LOL

It really doesn’t matter anymore since he had no issue at the DMV.

Time to move on and focus on helping to get the necessary repairs done to make the car right.

I gave you one of the little red x's for your comment. My reason for that red x was your inclusion of other people in your comment about laughing at other peoples choices.

You have a right to free speech for sure. Just speak for yourself is all. I can get my own self into trouble, don't need any help.

Sounds like it is going to work out for you.
I would ask for print out of a front end alignment when the repairs are completed.

This is a 50+ year old car. The OP lives in the middle of the snow belt. Cars rust there.

I've sold cars to people, given clear descriptions about defects and sometimes STILL get callbacks. One idiot would only text me, not call, about any little thing he found....on a 1978 Trail Duster I sold for $2500. This was a a truck that he liked so much, he bragged about how it was the BEST one he had seen for sale and was amazed that I wanted to sell it. He called one day:
"The heater don't work man...you ripped me off!!!"
He drove over with it and I showed him how to work the STOCK controls.
"Oh...Okay."
No apology, no thank you either.
He texted, bitching about the "exposed wires".
The Problem? A 4 pin trailer wire plug that did not have a cover for 3 of the pins.
I had to block his number. I have never done that before but this idiot was like trying to talk sense to a Liberal....He did not possess the intellect to understand common sense.
I had a fella like that once. He complained about a few things that not only I myself pointed out but also he himself pointed out in which I reminded him to a response of, “Oh” or “Oh yea, that’s right.”

On his forth or city call, I asked him to look at the warranty on the “Sold as is” vehicle. Which I told him was written on the bill
Of sale, where he confirmed it. He said there is no warranty, where I responded, “That is correct!” and hung up the phone never hearing from him again.

Another female making herself a royal pain with her catch line, “Don’t you think you should have sold the car in perfect condition?”
I said “No, I sold a junker to you with the words “As Is” right on the bill of sale after you OK’d it with me in front of 2’other people. I can not foresee a valve cover gasket going bad and leaking 3 weeks after you purchase the car!

2 litigants walked into Peoples court, The defendant had sold a car on Craig's list really cheap because it had issues. The complainant Had bought the car from someone that said the car had no issues.

The 2 had never seen each other before, but the complainant was suing the person that she thought sold her the car. The real thief/fraudster had purchased the car from the defendant then wiped the computer and relisted it, using the defendants name. and since the defendant didn't put the thief's name on the title, he got away with it, because no one knows who he really is.

Be careful out there

what you are about to witness...is real

love that show

so, the actual perp got away with it, but who got hosed, the plaintiff of the defendant?

The Plaintiff paid too much for a car with issue's, but she didn't buy it from the defendant. so there was no case.

Hello all! I know it's been awhile since my last post but i'm getting closer to getting this thing resolved! Since i last posted i have been working on getting the car over to Bob's guy Dave with the frame equipment but was hitting a snag. Dave had a car up that they couldn't solve for so it was being put off week after week. When he finally had an opening the damn car wouldn't start. Had a "mechanic that makes house calls over and he determined i needed a new distributor and possibly a new carburator. I ended up taking it to Pep Boys and they replaced the distibutor and the fuel pump. They said to hold off on the carburator for now. Picked it up last Friday and it runs really well. So i called Dave today and let him know. He's able to get the car in on Wednesday! I asked him if we were clear on the fact that Bob was footing this repair and he said 100% yes. I'm back in the game! I'll let you know how the repair goes. Thanks again for the advice!

In regards to the title, here in Wisconsin I am told that you can purchase a "wholesaler's" or "dealers" license or permit from DMV. This allows one to buy and sale up to six? vehicles per month, without paying sales tax and without having to get a new title. There is a separate document (bill of sale or receipt or something similar) that documents the transaction, but the wholesaler or dealer doesn't have to register the car in his/her name or get a new title. When purchasing a vehicle from a wholesaler or a small independent dealer, the previous owners name will appear on the title. Is my understanding of this correct, or have I been given incorrect information? Most importantly, I suppose not having to pay registration fees and sales tax (5.5%) is the reason flippers and small, independent dealers go this route.

@Hoofer Keep us updated and stick around for a while. I think you got a pretty good deal on the car and I hope they get the front end repaired safely. This is a great site with lots of good people. It will be a valuable asset to you if you decide to keep the Barracuda. Good luck!

The seller can be a totally honest person, the buyer also. Sometimes the problem, talking in general, is the expectations of the buyer does not match the condition and function of the car. Many times a seller is not totally knowledge and the buyer does not have the ability to ask good questions and adequately inspect a car for sale. I am not directly these comments toward the people in this particular thread.
Decades ago a lot of 68-70 B bodies came and went, I well remember this one. Like most roadruuners I picked up back in the late 80's. early nineties, this car would run and drive. Needed a complete resto but I drove it 30 miles to the buddy's body shop that did some of my cars. It sells to a Nam vet that had a NEW one before he went over there. He wanted another runner. I explained to him exactly what he was getting. He looks it over, we drive it down th road. He has my buddy do the body work, calls ME every week to ask when it will be finished there. I explain to him I sold HIM the car, HE needs to call the body shop and ask. I have nothing to do with it. I recommended his work and introduced them.

In a couple weeks the car is painted, flawless. He picks it up and will drive it to K.C. some 90 miles away. I remind him this car needs a total resto, engine built, trans, rear end checked out, brakes done, interior done. Yes it is shiny like a new one, BT....
So he gets 60 mi done the road and gets caught in construction there at the city. It sits and starts to over heat.

He calls and tells me he will just sell it, it is just not like the one he bought new back in 69! (brand new)!!

His expectations were way above what he got into. Maybe I did not do a good job of explaining what he bought and what it would need?????

Whoever bought it got a good deal if all that was left was mechanical and interior refreshening.

Hello everyone! I wanted to post an update on my 67 Barracuda. It's been a long strange trip. I'm told i need a new front frame rail from a donor car. Is that something that is easy to come by? I am also told that if that isn't available then i need a front frame clip. What say you folks?

I believe 67-72 or possibly 73 all A body frame rails are the same. Shouldent be too hard to get one. Easier to change a single rail than a whole front stub. Need to take it somewhere where they intimately know these cars and how to fix em correctly structurally so you dont end up with a further hacked mess, otherwise you WILL end up having to stub it.

If you post a wanted ad on this site someone will very likely have one to sell.

Yep, in order to get a clip, both rails would need to come off.

Double the work and 50% unnecessary.

Engine and trans need to come out to change out the rail IMHO. New rail gets lined up with K frame bolts. They are a shoulder bolt that has to line up exactly.
