Is my car overpriced?

It looks like a great car, but yes, I think it’s overpriced. Significantly.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a ‘55 or ‘56 Dodge sell for anything much over $20k regardless of model, condition, or originality. Now, I’m sure that there have been some rare models that have sold for that much at auction, I just haven’t seen it and I saw more than a few sell when I was following prices on them.

The ‘55 and ‘56 Dodges just don’t have that big of a following. Even the ‘55 and ‘56 Plymouths do better, and they still don't have a big following.

I sold my ‘55 Coronet a couple years ago. It was a 2 door hardtop like yours, and still had the original 270 poly in it. I’d converted it to disk brakes up front and put a later B-body 8 3/4 in it to get rid of the old tapered axle drum set up. I also had an Offy intake on with a 4 barrel carb, dual exhaust, later distributor etc. I had replaced the floor pan with the sections that are reproduced to get rid of some of the rust that car had, and the paint and bodywork was no where near as nice as yours. Overall it was a reliable driver quality car, and my wife actually used it as a driver for about a year. I had the car up for sale a couple times, once before I did the rust repair and again after. I sold it for $5k. To a friend of mine that also has a thing for the 55/56 cars. I had very little other interest in it at all, and I thought I was being very fair with the price. He sold it about a year later, but again it was in pretty much the same price ballpark.

Obviously your car is MUCH nicer than mine ever was, and I'm sure you've got a ton of money into it. But ultimately if you get more than $20k for it I'd be shocked. That's not a knock on your car, it's just what it is. If don't mind advertising it for months on end you may do better than that, if you take it to an auction you might do better. And of course that's just my opinion.

My car as it was when I sold it. Cop wheels too! :D
