I’m in the process of putting back my top end of my 383 engine and I switched over to an OEM style aluminum water pump. When installing the heater hose nipples, temp sending unit and anything that screws into the water pump and touches coolant how should I seal them before installation? A little rtv high heat sealant on the threads or some Teflon plumbers tape? Any suggestions appreciated.

If it touches water and has threads, use thread sealant.

If it touches water and doesn't have threads, use a gasket.

I only use rtv where no gasket is used and rtv is specifically called out, as in diff covers, late model oil pans, etc.

If I do use rtv where there is an issue with sealing such as a pitted surface, I use the 'ultra' stuff. It didn't pull off like the cheap stuff.

That all said, any port in a storm. I've seen very sketchy uses of rtv that were quite successful.

Any kind of pipe dope, even the stuff regular plumbers use is O.K. The liquid teflon Permatex is probably the best though. Teflon tape is not great to use... the strands can end up in the cooling system. Plus it can cause thin-wall aluminum housings to crack.

Using "The Correct Stuff" on any job is always a matter choice.
O2 sensors love the "The Right Stuff".
Just saying.
Happy Mopar :)
my wideband O2 sensor in my exhaust is in trouble from using the right stuff to seal my motor?!

"The Right stuff" on everything. No leaks. No where. Never.
?
And yes could be, See General Motors tech bulletin covering the use of Silicone products on engines and there effects.
Bottom line all products should be checked for correct application.
BTW The right stuff is O2 safe.
One product May not be good for all.
Happy Mopar :)

agree with the "Permatex liquid Teflon," probly the best all around thread sealant I `ve ever used. And I have probly screwed more threads together than 90% of u all put together.
I have a bottle of it in my garage------old and getting pasty.

Possibility one of the worlds leaders and suppliers of OEM parts to auto repairers and manufactures worldwide could convince some people to use the "Correct Stuff" when working on there automobiles. One size may not fit all.
This Tech Bulletin is from Tomco and confirms that "Incorrect Stuff" can and will have adverse effects.
Its always nice when people post things without adding any Technical data to back up there misconceptions. This in fact leads the person that originally was asking for this forums assistance to possibly be lead in the incorrect direction and thus never correct / fix there problem.
Always read the TDS and SDS documents before using products.

Last but not least someone really needs to take the WISC test.

Well mumbo jumbo mumbo jumbo I still said screw GM and their tech support b*******. My Strokers kicking *** four years later and not a drop of oil on the ground. Blah blah blah
you're going to have to do better than quoting a bunch of GM mumbo-jumbo to make me think that my Permatex right stuff is doing anything to my exhaust O2 sensor. Bull crap still works fine for years later. that's real life experience not a bunch of mumbo-jumbo somebody reads an article about.

In reading your post its clear You did not Completely read all of my posts on this subject.
Not only did i quote GM I also quoted TOMCO and Permatex.
Both with FACTS and LINKS to where people can get REAL substantiated information.
As i stated in my previous post Someone really needs to take the WISC test.
