headliner

My cardboard is shot too.
Not sure what im going to do with it yet.

Bowed fabric headliners are a pain in the Azz! I need mine redone in my 66. Pull the glass to do it right.

I have not, but I am replacing mine in my 70 Dart, (fabric). I cannot see why it cannot be done. I would make sure there are the holes for the bow rods to slip in to, and you have to get ahold of all the clips and bow rods a course. And then the sail panels and glass removal, dome light, sun visors rear view mirror, and package tray to content with. I would first check if the bow rod holes are there first.......

I know next to nothing about headliners... bought my '72 Swinger (2-door hardtop) as a stripped rolling shell, stuffed with all the parts in boxes & bags. And a cardboard headliner that looks reusable.

I found this article on replacement vinyl liners with bows:
How To Replace Your Headliner On Your Dodge Dart - Mopar Muscle Magazine

Wondering what holds the cardboard liner up there - is it pointy barbs all the way around?

Oh man you got a good cardboard? The trim and the dome light the visors the front and rear window seals all hold the cardboard up.
Also pictures help. Why doesn't anybody show pictures?

@j par I will show you a pic, my winter project. R and R headliner..........

:thumbsup:super easy takes a weekend and if you want to really spend money you might get up near $80 or so. depending on how fancy you get with your material. But probably near 60 if you just want that typical car sponge stuff.:D

Yes I remember, I read your post awhile back, you did good. I like it when one thinks outside the box. I painted my car last month, so both glasses are out of the car sooo I am dong the fabric and bow thing.

Nice work, j par... My cardboard is a long way from perfect but definitely better than your "before" pic. :)

I used a lot of spray cleaner and paper towels to get many years of dust and bird poop off it... then slid it into the car. It was interesting trying to get it lined up, but finally I balanced it on my head while mounting the dome light to hold it in place! Then lined up the rearview mirror mounting holes, screwed it in, popped the windshield gasket lip over the front edge of the cardboard... and discovered I didn't have the visor mounting screws. Look like they should be oval head, either #8 or #10.

Also I realized I didn't have an insulation pad and the headliner will need to be dropped again (at least partially) to get it in there. So I might as well stop until I have one ordered.
