New cheap ebay steering box

Yeah, the parts that fail are usually on the outside, and flaws aren't typically hidden by a thick layer of chrome plating. Go for it.

He's going to visually inspect it, you're good. He can tell if the metal surface hardness is up to spec, if there are any flaws in the in the castings or forgings (forgings? China? Yeah, probably). Ductility? Fracture Toughness? Fatigue strength? Crystalline structure? Alloy composition? Lubricant suitability?

No sweat. He'll look it over for thirty seconds, maybe even a minute before he slaps it in. It'll be fine. If it fails, he'll just pull over.

Besides, it's got a warranty!

Right?
im sure you do all of this to the 50 year old worn out parts you slap on your car right? people like you are whats wrong with this forum... discouraging people from checking out new products and reporting back to the mopar community to help them know if aftermarket parts are worth their time or money, how dare i take something apart and see if i can make it better, right? way to try to discourage a fellow hot rodder from actually hotrodding instead of spending 600 dollars on a 16 to1 factory box... or 3k + on a coil over front end kit and just bolting it on like any 10 year old could do. i went out of my way to take my stock box out which aint an easy task and spent $160 on something i didnt actually need to try and check it out for the community to maybe give back a little for all the free information ive gotten off here but apparently its frowned upon to try something new, thats hotrodding right? ive been on the fence about this forum and all the keyboard warriors and ive had enough, im not here to win damn arguments to feel good about myself, i just thought id let some people know if this box is any good or not tell you what why dont you spend some money and run 10K in tests to see if a steel casting is worth a ****? your turn to help everybody out, but dont worry you'll just say its junk cause its made in china, how clever

Hey UDUST81,

Just because something is made overseas, and less expensive, doesn't mean it's crap. Heck, most of the stuff in our cars, appliances etc is sourced abroad. Being on a tight budget myself, I keep all my options open. I'm looking forward to seeing how that steering box works for you.

Be well,
Pat

Buying cheap direct-replacement **** on eBay AIN'T hotrodding, and there are certain places on your car and in your life you should never be a cheapdick.

It's not like I didn't learn that the hard way myself, y' know.

But it's not like I might know from first hand experience.

But keep buying your rubbers from the gas station bathroom. I don't know ****.

I agree that it will take more than looking at and installing the box to make an assessment of the durability.
The stock mopar steering boxes are ez to disassemble. This one should come apart the same way. There is a posting on here on FABO that details the dissassembly process, i’ll find it and post the link. No doubt the box under discussion is foreign made, maybe China maybe India. That in it self does not make it dangerous, however with my background in manufacturing, I cannot see how that box can be manufactured and the seller make a profit, at the sellling price, including free shipping. I would want a look inside.

glad you are trying out the new box , let us now your opinion and thanks

Im also interested in seeing how it works out, Im just disappointed that they dont make one for power steering...

I just replaced the power steering box in my 68 Dart GTS, the one I purchased is from Steer and Gear out of Ohio. I purchased the Modern Feel box and what a huge improvement over the standard feel factory box. All of the excessive play in the steering wheel is gone. Steer and Gear will rebuild your factory box anyway you want as far as feel goes. Yes it was a little more expensive than what the OP paid for his chrome box but I do have a warranty and so far I am very happy with the box.

It’s been almost two months since we’ve heard from Udust. Too bad, I’d like to have known the outcome...

Dragging this back out. Wondering how this ended. Didn't crash, did you UDUST81?

nope, bashed headers in slightly and ground down box slightly to make it fit as the box is bigger than stock manual box no problems as of yet.

16-1 steering is awesome. way tighter than the old worn out stock box that is supposedly safer not many miles on new setup as its iowa and its winter next spring will get more miles on it

Thank-you! And thanks for being the test pilot. Seriously considering going manual on my latest project.
