Hello all. So I rebuilt the power steering pump and box on my 71' Scamp \6. Now the steering wheel breaks my arm turning to the right when I start the car. I adjusted the valve all the way up and all the way down and still the same fwwwwwwing to the right. Any suggestions

Thanks

Sounds like it may be air bound? Maybe try to figure out how to bleed air off? I believe the self bleed though the pump?

There is an issue with the spool valve, tube and balls. They are almost timed to the worm twisty thing.
I tried to rebuild one a few years ago and it went the same - hydraulically went right and break your arm if you tried to go left unless the car was off.
I send mine out now to a professional re builder. But you may have skills I do not.
Adjust the screw in or out will not repair the issue you are describing.
Keep us posted.
Joe

You have to loosen the steering valve housing bolts & tap it down until the wheels center, then tighten it back down.

(Tap it up when the wheels head to the left)

OK, so I tried adjusting the valve all the way up and down, no change. I took the valve off the housing and say that the rod was not centered in the spool valve socket. Cleaned it up again and reinstalled, after one adjustment now it works perfectly!! :) Thanks all
