I have a 413 in my car right now that has maybe 1,000 miles on it and ran a best of 13.05@ 105, but im picking up a 383 that also has 1,000 miles on it and it runs pretty strong also...so should i swap the 413 for 383? Thoughts? Yay or nay? Header clearance would be better i know with 383 since my fenderwell headers are cracked and rotted and i have a b-body set.

Since you asked, 413! No brainer! 30 cubes larger all in the stroke. It’s similar to taking a 360 crank into a 340 & @ .030 it equals a 372/373. What’s not to like?

How much is the 383?

Pretty awesome deal for the 383, problem with the 413 is it has cast pistons/ lower compression.

You could gain or loose depending on a 1001 factors not mentioned.

Maybe I'll just change the rear gear and run the 413 till i break it! Lol

My question still stands. You said yourself the 413 runs strong. So what about low compression or cast pistons. It runs strong. You gonna dump nitrous in it? Stick a blower on it? Leave well enough alone.

Buy the 383 if it’s a good deal and you have a place to put it. Take it apert and check it out. I have stared into the innereds of a big block mopar many winter nights

The biggest issue with 413's is the lack of choise in pistons . Otherwise it is the same as any "RB" motor . This is negated these days by the custom piston industry . The 413 makes it's torque at a lower rpm but it's rpm is limited in it's stock form . The 383 has more aftermarket support and revs a little better . I think it's a tossup as to what's better . I just have more experience with the low decks . Hope this helps .

I agree 100% and that's usually my argument against the 413, BUT, he has a running engine that's strong in his words. So to me, the cubes win out.
