Need help on new rebuild

-
The proper gasket for that is for an AVS and is about 3/8 thick, made of compressed paper with torque limiters in the corners.

That’s great to know, I will get one ordered. Two days of scratching my head for a gasket. When I sprayed carburetor cleaner around the base I never detected the leak.

Thanks very much for posting the fix. I bet it will help others as well.

If you would not mind and for the record, run a vacuum test at idle and see how many inches it reads when it it is better sealed. Your 15" manifold vacuum reading was marginal..... but, not an obvious pointer to the issue. The original gasket must have been juuuust almost sealing, but not quite. Maybe the carb cleaner test did not work for that reason.... just a tiny leak.

I have run both the four hole and the single hole gasket with a 800 avs on that manifold with no issues. That being said it does get thin on that corner always was a concern of mine. As to the throttle blades hitting the plenum holes I can’t help as mine are cut out of the manifold. I always would put the carb on and move it around on its studs and then work the throttle. See if it would hang up.

By the way Jegs billet distributor is a nice cost concious replacement for the points type. Just paint the body black and it looks like the cast iron dual point that came on the 68 340’s. It has adjustable mechanical advance through “keys” you insert through the timing plates. It’s what in my car.
