I finally got a good pair of sill plates for my '72 Swinger. The carpet is installed except for cutting it at the sills. How long should I cut it?
Just enough to come up over the pinch weld and back down, or should there be some extension onto the sill? thanks :)

I usually cut the carpet so it goes over the pinch weld, however that can cause fitment issues with the sill plates some times. Cut it long and test fit the plates; you will probably need to do this several times until you get it right. Bottom line is that you want the carpet under the sill plates and not be able to get pulled down outside of the plates.

just over make sure you push it down tight towards the inside of the car before cutting or you'll be short towards the sill plate. measure twice cut once. (you cant put it back)

When i did mine i did it on a hot day in the sun so the carpet was nice and flexible. I 'shaved' off some of the carpet so the bottom remained, which i tucked under the sill plate and tucked into the little trench part. Took way longer cutting, shaving and fitting over and over but it fits quite nicely and is worth it

Brings up a great point, it is very helpful if the carpet can be warmed up either naturally or artificially (be careful not to melt it).

"I cut it twice, and it's still too short!"

And also i found double sided tape to be useful in a few spots also and super glue up near the firewall.
