It's not really black if it is anything like the one on my E body. More of a dark grey and the surface has a lot of ripples, looks like crap up close. I think a good start would be a couple coats of the Plastic Dip peel off paint to try it in the color you are interested in. If you are going to paint it I think a skim coat of filler is required to have any chance of a nice looking job, even with flat black.
