I was wondering what parts are the same for these two engines? I know the intake is different, the valve covers are probably different, but don't know if the headers are different, if the transmission bolt pattern is different, are the mm different, are the brackets to the alt and ps pump are different?

Any and all help appreciated.

Also anyone know how much more power a stock mag will put out more than the LA? Considering all things are equal.
 
The bellhousing pattern is the same between magnum and LA.

Magnum block has ears for LA motor mounts as well as magnum specific mounting bosses for spool mounts as used in rams/durangos etc. These may need to be ground off for header clearance.

You can run magnum cylinder heads on an LA block but NOT vice versa as the magnum block isn't drilled to provide oil to LA cylinder heads from the cam tunnell.

External balancing of the crank, flywheel and balancer are specific to magnum 5.9 or LA 360 respectively. Ie an LA balancer on a magnum rotating assembly will be incorrect.

Magnum engines have no provision for a mechanical fuel pump. The magnum cam is shorter than an LA and has no provision for a fuel pump eccentric as they were fuel injected. I've seen kits to allow a short nose magnum camshaft to run an eccentric to drive the pump but have heard mixed reviews.

Often it's best to fit an LA camshaft, timing cover and water pump. Allowing stock LA accessories to be fitted

Or keep the magnum serpentine belt arrangement and use an electric fuel pump.

If you were to fit a flat tappet camshaft to a magnum, the pushrod angles change due to the shorter body of the flat tappet lifter compared to the magnum's factory hydraulic roller lifter, this requires clearancing of the cylinder heads to avoid binding.

Factory stock a 5.9L Magnum put out 245 HP, 335 lb-ft and the LA 360 it replaced put out 190 HP and 280? lb-ft, most of that being due to the bigger roller cam, ram-tuned intake with MPFI and heads that flow more in the lower lift ranges. The difference in power between LA and Magnum gets muddled when you talk about building them because you can put basically the same aftermarket parts in either; for example you can put a hydraulic flat-tappet cam in a Magnum or get retrofit roller lifters for an LA. Only big issue is trying to put LA heads on a later Magnum block because they stopped drilling the oil passages for the rocker shafts (something I have to deal with putting LA Edelbrocks on a 5.9L Magnum short block right now actually).
