72 dart.... Super stock springs, Dana 60 3:73....moved the springs in. Fixing to cut the wheel tubs. Need all the tire I can get. 727 with a brake, 5500 jw conv. Will have mufflers. It will be a street car !! 440/512 is what I'm building. 10.5 compression. 270 Trick flow heads max wedge ports with a mopar performance tunnel ram. Two 4150 750 cfm vac secs carbs. Cam motion cams ground the cam that i ask them to. .674 lift 1.6 rockers 296 duration ground on a 112 lobe angle. What's y'alls opinion ?? Would love to be in this group somewhere in the 9s

weight? Much like mine except for the max wedge and tunnel ram. 1200 cfm throttle body, standard cnc`d ports, smaller cam for vacuum to make the fuel inj. work better.
Big disappointment w/ 295 65 215 drag radials !! Need initial bite to help raise the front end ! Thinking of mini tubbing too.

My car will be a whole car. So factory weight !! Plus some. I will have to put a cage in it. Had a 71 charger 30 over 440 that ran 10:90 1/4. Ported 452 heads hard lifter mopar perf cam. These mopars run great !!

The parts to run 9’s make it so much easier to get there now but it still isn’t as easy as it sounds. It kinda sounds like you still want it to be streetable so that throws another element to it. Heck we ran high 9’s on super stock springs 30 years ago with stock cranks, rods, 906 heads, and junk ignition parts but we also used 14 inch wide slicks, 750 lift roller cams, and LOTS of work and testing. The tracks and traction have improved greatly over the years so that helps too

Yes Sir !! Thank you for that. I've been racing along time. But haven't ran in the 9s. Your right tho. Todays technology is a great thing. You guys didn't have that. Y'all had to earn it and did... My dad also earned it. Thank you Sir for the true facts. Love to talk with you racers.

Is one better than the other 400/512 or 440/512 ??? I have both !! That is a stock 400 or 440.... One make more HP than the other as a 512 cubic inch motor given the same cam and heads. But different intake !! This may be another which came first the chicken or the egg !!

400 block is supposed to be a hair stronger between the mains and cam tunnel. I really cant see one outperforming the other/ if everything is the same/cyl wall thickness and all. 400 may be a few pounds liter.
Andy F. might have more input, he`s built both I think------

Buy the 4500 dollar 470 shortblock Andy has for sale and stick ported 240’s on it.
Should run 9’s easy.
He made 650 with unported 240’s on it. 650 is plenty to run 9’s in a full weight A body. Been there done that. With porting them you will have room for error

I will build my own motor... Not going to buy anyone else. It is sure nice to know that I stand a good chance of being in the 9s tho. Course then I will want 8s lol !! Awesome guys. Thanks for the input. It will be a nasty street car... Not to many molar street cars around here where I live. Like known

I have always built my own too, but if I were going to buy one Andy`s would be high on the list.

Could always look at forced induction and hit 9s easy and great street manners especially if you go turbo or twin, there's a member on here makes big block turbo headers for a A body over in the forced induction section.
BB turbo headers
