I just had my steering column blasted and powder coated, The lower column collar piece seams to have gotten warped. Not sure if it was the blasting or the oven that caused it. Has this happened to anyone else here. I am buying a new aftermarket collar and don't want to make the same mistake twice. Any info would be greatly appreciated

I was thinking about that right after i wrote the post, If so it had to be during blasting because the powder coating was nice!
Thank you very much!

I have never seen one that was perfectly round-- I had to pull my column out to get the dam thing back together after a lower bearing mod. The factory engineer that came up w/ the bolt configuration to bolt the upper housing pieces together, must have been a reject !! Dumbest set up I`ve run across !

It could have been that way when you took it apart, yes, these things are not perfectly round

I agree, Thank you!

I know exactly what the problem is. The shaft and finish piece are steel, but that little collar is pot metal. I'm frankly surprised all it did was warp -- you got very lucky.

They were cast and not round to start with---------------

After closer inspection i found a small flat spot where it was likely dropped prior to powder coating. Thank you all for your comments and insight!

The ones I've restored were pot metal. @65dartman has one of them and will probably remember.
