Time to Buy Tires for the Duster......help please.

A 205-70-14 would be close to the stock E70s. a 215 would be close to an F70. I had 215-70s on the front of mine and a 225-70-14 on the rear. A 255-60-15 would fit pretty easy. I dont think I would go to big on your car it being as stock as it it. May look out of place.

Many people say the Duster wheelwells are the same as 2nd gen Barracudas.
IDK. But 295/50-15s on 10s fit in my 68 Barracuda with ease, even lowered quite a bit. With a bit of massaging on the inner side, I even hung a pair of 325/50-15s on 10s in there. So yes the wells are generous.
Moving the springs is a couple of hours work,no biggie..
After that, you can narrow the rear to run a standard 4.5 backspace. You need a minimum of 1/8 to the springs, and a minimum of 3/8 to the closest part of the inner. The metal moves with a BFH,no problem. I run 24psi to get proper tread life. Yeah it rolls over in the rear around the corners, but you get used to it right quick, and then it just becomes rear steer. The roll is minimized when the tires are spinning. Also the clearance is increased when spinning or the faster you go,lol. I have run tighter than 1/8 and 3/8,at the track.

i worked for Firestone for years as a manager, when you are talking tire sizes 205,215,225 and so on has nothing to do with width, this is how tall the sidewalls are,and that determines height, if you are wanting width , that is the 70,60,55 and so on, and the last number is size for rim, 13,14,15. so if you want a wider tire for back go to 60 or 55s, i run 50s on back of a 74 duster, but you have to watch what type of wheel you use about spring rub or fender rub

Maybe it's been too long since your Manager position? :D
2 tires, both 255's
First is 255/40
Second is 255/70
255 is the width, and 40 vs 70 is sidewall height.

It happens to the best of us sometimes.:poke::D

I have no idea why KD would disagree with my post (#10).
I presented the facts for my car, yours may be different?

Dr. This is a pic of my Duster with 275's on the same dimension rim that you have.

Thanks for everybody's input. I went with 215/70-14's up front and I decided to go with 255/60-15's in the back. Just got the rear tires mounted on my rims and I hope to put them on tomorrow. I think that the combo will look good. A good compromise between the factory look of the rims but a little more meat in the wheel wells.

I agree with the Cooper cobras. Seems like Goodrich figured out they are about the only game left in town for wide 14s and 15s. They didn’t double their prices but pretty close. The Coopers are similarly rated from my research, and a whole lot cheaper.
